Hi
I am researching the name of Berryman in Cornwall, has anyone else got the same interest so we can share and exchange information.
My immediate ancestors came from the Penzance area, but earlier generations I believe came from Zennor and Paul ring any Bells?

Hi Alby
When I get to do it I shall be researching my son-in-law's family. His g-grandmother was a Berryman (also sometimes spelt Berriman, so you might need to look for both spellings) She was born in Redruth in 1906.
When I feel a bit richer I shall send for the birth certs so I can get back further.

I used to live just outside Zennor and knew some of the Berrymans from Porthmeor but I don't suppose I could be of much help but just thought I would say.

Mistyweather ...
Re: Berrymans from Porthmeor ... I'm guessing that you knew my Grandfather's cousins William & Frank (or their father Jim).

Yes, really it was Betty (Elizabeth) married to Frank that I knew the most but remember seeing the other two gents in the other houses.

Hi Albi
I am a Berriman my family originally from Zennor.I realise it has been 4 years since your original search request on Berryman. How did you go with your research?
-
Hello,
My connection to Zennor is Berriman with an "i" i have family between the dates of 1824 to 1518 where it changes to bereman. If anyone else has anyone between these dates I'd love to hear from you so can compare notes and maybe learn something new!

Hi
I'm trying to track down a Richard Berryman who was a coastguard in Mullaghmore in Co Sligo, Ireland in 1919. He married a Mullaghmore girl, Kate Murtagh, and family stories say that they moved back to St Ives and ran a post office.
A relative of Kate Murtagh's is travelling to Cornwall in June and would love to find out if Richard and Kate have any family still around the area, or if anyone knows anything about the family.
many thanks
Barbara

I am connected to the Berryman, Zenobia Berryman married Thomas Thomas of zennor if that is any help
-
Thanks for your reply. Do you know if you have Richard Berryman or Kate Murtagh in your tree?
Most people are looking backwards but I'm trying to look forwards, none of the old records are any use to me!
thanks

Update to my posts on Kate Murtagh and Richard Berryman.
I've just discovered that Kate was a widow when she married Richard Berryman. Her first husband was the coastguard.
So I am actually looking for information on Kate Sowden who married Richard Berryman in Penzance in 1936.
If anyone has any information on this family I would be very grateful.
many thanks

Further updates on my Kate & Richard Berryman.
I now believe my Richard Berryman was the son of Richard & Mary Elizabeth Berryman of Zennor, and in the 1911 census he had 10 siblings: Winifred, William, Alfred, Matilda, Thomas, Jane, David, Charity, Edith and Agnes. Richard Berryman was aged 15 in 1911.
Richard Berryman's aunt was named Catherine, married to Thomas Berryman, and she ran the post office in Zennor in the early 1900s. DH Lawrence referred to her in his letters as "Mrs Katie Berryman".
It seems that sometime after 1920 my Kate was in the post office in Zennor with her first husband, Sidney Sowden, until Sidney died in 1929.
Richard Berryman was Kate's second husband, they got married in 1936 and had no children. I think Kate died in 1970, aged 80, and Richard died in 1986, aged 90, and both are buried at Zennor Parish Church.
I would love to hear from anyone who might remember Richard or Kate Berryman, or can point me towards someone who does. A relative of Kate's is travelling to Cornwall in June and would love to find out if anyone remembers anything about her.
thanks, Barbara
