Hi All
I know I have posted for this information on the English look ups before but I can not find My gt. grandfather William VESSEY
He was born in 1847 Horncastle Lincolnshire but lived most his life in BEXLEY KENT
He appears on the 1881/91 Occ Plumber England Census Kent with wife Eliza & children (including my Grandfather.)
On the 1901 Census his wife is still at same address Kent with family with (M) Married beside her name.
I have sent now for 2 death certificates between 1891-1901of William Vessey but they were not my Wiliam.
My thoughts are they he was elsewhere on Census night or last resort in SCOTLAND
Does anyone have available a Census resource for Scotland LOOK UP 1901 William VESSEY he would have been aged abt 54
I know he was dead in 1927 as of his daughters marriage cert.
Fingers Crossed
Kind regards

ScotlandsPeople is the only online source I know for 1901 Scotland census. You can search for free, but need credits to view results - I don't currently have any. Searching for William Vessey or Vesey, aged 50 to 60, there are no matches - if you turn on the soundex search, however, (name might be spelt Vessie e.g.) there are 2 matches.

Hi Annie
Afraid not. This was the first death certificates that I ever sent for him, too much of a coincidence having been born in Horncastle I was so sure that this was the correct one
William Vessey age 60 Born In Elsham Died April; 2nd 1901 Stixwould
Wife Mary
My Williams wife was Eliza.
I'll take note of your idea of him being in a hospital. Never thought of that or perhaps he was away somewhere and without his wifes help just did not register.
On the B.M D there is another William's death a bit later on I should chase up Glanford Brigg. ? Lincolnshire ? about the correct age
Because I could not find him on the 1901 I have had tunnel vision concentrating on deaths between 1881/1901
I keep searching. Looking in Scotland was just along shot.
Thank you Annie for your good feed back, and from all other Rootschatters that you give helpful advice to.

Hi Trish
Shortly I am going to get back to my mothers side of the family. Her Maiden name was HEATHER MENZIES SCOTLAND, so it will be worth my while to purchase some Scots credits.
I have gone direct line with my Vessey family to 1732 and it frustrates me that I cannot find Williams Death so I can say COMPLETED - In the meantime I have been doing all the offshoots of the Vessey family . Plenty of time spent on Roots Chat.aye ?
Bye and thank you

Hi Dianne
I save up my queries before heading to SP too - but I do search without credits. Wills are handy too & you can see them indexed for no charge.
Meanwhile if William's wife said she was married - I would think he is still alive in 1901. I have found with most of my families they would lie about age and also about married/single (if there were children) but they always seemed to give Widow if their partner was dead. I had one lady in England whose husband disappeared to Oz, but she correctly kept saying she was married for 30 years ;D

Hi Trish again.
When I think about it, William married Eliza in 1873 would surely have put widow if he was dead.
My grandfather immigrated to New Zealand in 1910 and never had contact with Parent /siblings ever again. Dad says in his days they wern't allowed to ask questions.. So he never knew anything about his cousins /grandparents.
If dad was alive today wouldn.t he have loved to have known about all his ancestors I have found.
Regards and thank you for another idea you have given me.
