Title: 1861 Witham - Eliza Claydon please-Completed Thanks
Post by: Kissimmee on Tuesday 04 July 06 21:45 BST (UK)
Hoping someone can help me out with this one
Found my Ann Claydon at Enfield in 1881 details below

1881 Enfield Midx RG11 1392 54 34
Beulah House
Ann Claydon  S  43   Cook (Dom Serv)   Witham
Eliza Claydon  S  31   Housmaid (Dom Serv) Witham
In the household of Sarah Buzanar age 66

There is an Eliza Claydon in the same household also born Witham.
I am sure there is a family connection between the 2 girls and would like to know who were Eliza's parents.
Thanks for any help
Kissimmee

Hi CP
We meet up again!
Thanks for that lovely result.
I am sure you are correct in your idea that Ann and Eliza are first cousins.   Just wanted to make sure that I hadn't missed a younger sister for her.

I see that you have found on the IGI that that mother to Susannah and Sarah is named as a Joslyn.  I am sure that is where the tie up with grandmother Dinah Joslin fits in.

Even Peter Joslin who does a one name study on the surname couldn't help.

You supplied a marriage for Dinah.

Emma sister to Ann married her first cousin Samuel Joslin but that is the first connection I could find.  Need to get my head round all the new information you have sent but I am sure that you have solved the problem. of grandmother Dinah.

Once again I thank you
Kissimmee

Hi Kissimmee,

We are researching the same Claydon family. Do you have the marriage date and parish of the marriage of Thomas Claydon to Sarah Joslin please. It would be really helpful  :D

Thank you

Hi Kissimmee,

1851 England Census: Paradise Row, Witham, Essex.
Dinah Joslin, Head, Widow, Age 84, Living in Almshouse, Born: Bildestone, Suffolk.
Ann Claydon, Grandchild, Age 13, Servant to Almshouse, Born: Witham, Essex.

Dinah must be the mother or grandmother of Emma Sprigs. There's no reason she couldn't have remarried after Mr Sprigs death. I think I recall there being a FamilySearch file on them.

Ann, the dau of Thomas and Emma is the third cousin of Eliza, dau of Robert, I think.

Hi Kcasey,

Sorry that I cannot help you with a marriage date for Thomas & Sarah.  Their first know child Thomas was born Witham Essex 21st March 1813 so it would have been somewhere near that date.  My interest with the Claydon's actually starts with Thomas the son who married Emma Spriggs. Emma Spriggs was the sister of my 3 x gr grandfather James Spriggs and I have gathered quite a lot of information on the Spriggs over the years.  Emma who married Thomas Claydon her father was also called James and her mother was Ruth Warren and they married 24/10/1791 at St Mary, Bocking.

Sarah who married Thomas Claydon date unknown - her parents were
James Joslin and Dinah Bull

I have their marriage details if you are interested.  I have quite a lot on the Claydon's even thought they are not my line, if there is anything I might be able to add please send me a PM.
