This site may be helpful to you.  It gives churches within the Rufford area and also states whether or not the church had a graveyard.

All the Moss's in Rufford are mine!.

Richard b.1739, Jane b.1744, Robert b.1769, Susannah.....   I could go on and on.

Paviours; lived in Brick Kiln Lane, one of the sons was a Methodist Preacher.

Only found Richard, Jane, Robert, Susannah and Margaret Moss buried in Rufford Church.

Where could all the others be?

Could be at Croston. There are certainly RC burials there, so probably methodists too.

I thought of that too.

Been through the churchyard at Croston and not many Moss's there either.  Have to make a visit to the Records Office I think.....

Thanks for taking an interest.

Both Rufford and Croston early registers have been transcribed by the Lancashire Parish Record Society. I know there's a set in Chorley Library, so I'll have a look for your Mosses on friday evening.

Hi Stretchie,

Happy New Year for 2011!!

Just trawling old stuff and Rufford jumped off the page.

St John the Baptist (CoE) in Burscough has a graveyard.

Unfortunately, data is not on line, but if you are still in need, I'll check it out for you.

Fairly sure that there are Burscough Methodists buried there.

Regards,

BL

Some of my Rufford/Holmeswood family were apparently Methodists and I tend to find burials at Rufford St Mary the Virgin (I have quite a lot of photos of graves - Hunter/Caunce/Fell/Mayson/Forshaw), but also in Burscough, Tarleton and Croston. Tarleton was used quite a lot if they lived more towards the Mere Brow end of Holmeswood. I've also found some at Hesketh with Becconsall, the little church that's in Hesketh Bank. Mawdesley is also a possibility.

A lot of these are covered on LAN OPC, but not all.

I think some Methodists used the CofE parish churches for certain events but not necessarily others - it may have been law that you had to be married/buried at parish churches only for some time, though someone will have to clarify that. Certainly my Hunters used Rufford church for their marriages and funerals but in one family of 13 not one of the children was baptised there.

If you need any checks on St John's, then drop me a pm and I'll see what I can do.
We are members of St John's fellowship.
