Title: Seward and English
Post by: tioman on Friday 28 July 06 13:33 BST (UK)
Looking for any info on a business Seward and English in Arklow in the 1890's 1900's. Probably Grocers or Ironmongers. Edward Seward had previously been employed by Kynochs (??).

Thanks
Tioman

Hello Tioman,

Kynochs had a chemical plant at Arklow between 1895-1918.

The company  employed between 4,500 to 5,000 people during the first world war. www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,287889.msg1707557.html#msg1707557

Hi

The Arklow 1901 Census lists Edward Seward 42 (England) and wife Elizabeth (England), their daughter age 11 and son age 9 (both England).  Edward's occupation is given as Grocer/Hardware and their place of residence as Ticknoch.

Are you certain the "English" doesn't refer to their nationality as it would seem all four were from England.

Cheers

Thanks for that.  I have more info now on Mr Seward.  It was a mystery link that I found between he and Mr English which prove fruitless in the end.

Thanks
Tioman

Edward Seward is also my great grandfather - his son Percy Louis Herbert Seward was my Mum's father.
