Can anybody help with the marriage records of a JOHN HEAPS to a HANNAH. John was born about 1816 and Hannah about 1826, both in Macclesfield. I believe this may have been a second marriage for John as He had a son Thomas born about 1837 in Macclesfield and Hannah would have been too young to have children. There was also two more children that I know of, William born about 1842 and Richard about 1846, I'm thinking that Richard may have been Hannah's child but I'm not sure about William. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It might be that none of the children belong to Hannah
From Cheshire BDM 1850
HEAPS John married CULLEY Hannah at Congleton, St Peter Cheshire East Ref 506/1/77

This site is regularily updated - worth going back to check quite often

I was just going to suggest the marriage Trish has posted.
The children might not be hers or they might have married later??

I think Finch knew there was an earlier marriage Pam - from the age of Hannah on the 1851 census (a 25 year old is unlikely to have a 14 year old child). I've been searching 1841 to try & find the name of Wife 1, but I can't find them anywhere - must have been hiding under the bed again ;D
Can you see them in 41?

Hi Trish & Pam,
Yes, I think the marriage you found is probably the correct one, so I will assume (for the moment) that the children are from a previous marriage. Thanks so much for the web site you sent, I've had a look and have already found a marriage for one of the children of John. Hopefully, somebody will be able to help with the previouse marriage as it looks like it took place before 1837. Thank you both for looking for me.

Hi
This may help, found a marriage indexed as John Heaps a tailor and Mary Lomas sp. at St Peters Prestbury 12/March/1836 both of Macclesfield. Sutton was a township within the Prestbury parish.
Mary Heaps died in Sutton 1848 aged 33.

Hi Joan
Just as an aside, I suspect you haven't seen the 1861 census where it shows an Elizabeth Culley mother/in/law living with the Heaps family

Possible births for William and Richard from www.cheshirebmd.org.uk:
William T HEAPS Sutton 1841 SUT/3/27
Richard Birch HEAPS Sutton 1844 SUT/4/68
One of these certificates would give you mothers maiden name although Peter's Mary Lomas marriage seems most likely. Wonder where Birch comes from though (if these are yours!)?

I think I have found Thomas and his mother in 1841 at HO107 107/4/21 Page 36, Bridge St, Sutton:
Sarah WRIGLEY, 50, N
Ann WRIGLEY, 10, Silk Piecer, N
Maria FLINT, 20, Cotton Piecer, N
Maria BAILEY, 20, Silk Piecer, Y
Mary HEAPS, 25, Do, Y
Thomas HEAPS, 4, Y
Y = born in County, N = not born in County, I'm pretty sure Mary's occupation is dittoed from above.

John Heaps, Tailor of Macclesfield was my great great grandfather. He married Mary Lomas and had four children Thomas, Richard Birch, Julia Elizabeth(my great grand mother) and one other ( I will have to check my records) Mary died and John Heaps married Hannah Culley. They had a further four children.
I have a photograph of John Heaps I also have a copy of his will. I also have photographs of Thomas Heaps and his wife Sarah, Sarah Chapman Heaps and photographs of Mary and Elizabeth Heaps, sisters of John Heaps who were schoolmistress's at a private school on Park Lane Macclesfield.
My grandfather the son of Arthur Turner and Julia Elizabeth Heaps was John Heaps Turner.
