Hi Molly. Does it give any hint of Catherine's age on the Marriage cert? we know John Butler was 38 when they married, do you know if there was a big age gap or any thing? or do you know her age at death? then you can narrow down the year of birth and start looking  ;D

Hi Collette, my G.M Catherine was a lot younger than GF John from what I was told but don't know by how much. maybe as much as 15-17 yrs  My G.F. was killed in action 5 months before his youngest child was born ( my mother who is still alive at the grand old age of 91 and is enjoying me finding out about her father etc.)  the result was that Catherine gave up her 3 children to Johns 2 sisters to rear and they were never allowed to ask questions. Catherine married again and moved to Australia. The marriage lines just say age - full  for both.
Thanks for reading my request if you can think of a way round this maybe you can let me know.

Hi Jo, you say she was full age at marriage so 21 or over that means she was born before 1889 but at least 10 years after your grandad? who was born in 1872, working out roughly between 1882 to 89.
You say she lived in Glenpark Street before she was married was her father still alive? what was his occupation? you could get someone to have a look at the street directories going back from 1910 Glenpark street for her fathers name at other addresses if they lived over in North Belfast going back to the 1880s then you know the parish and Area she was born then you can check with the parish reg or Proni.

Hi Collette & Chris,
Thank you for your suggestions I don't know if Catherines father was alive when they lived in Glenpark Street -  on their marriage lines it states  her fathers occupation was a heckler.
I will keep plodding along and hopefully get lucky.
Thanks again   Jo.
