can anyone please tell me which clan if any a person with the surname Andrews would be associated with

Basically any one you wanted .... the modern "clan" system is a romanticised myth.
Under the original clan system where a family or group of families took up the "protection" of a clan very much depended upon where they were ... ie if you are in campbell land you would accept association with the Campbells

he history of the Andrews family begins among the Pictish clans ancient Scotland. The name Andrews comes from the baptismal name Andrew which in Greek means manly. The name was popular as both a personal name and a surname, likely because it wass the name of Scotland's patron saint. In Gaelic the name is Aindrea and Anndra which again means manly.
Spelling variations include: Andrew, Andrews, MacAndrew, Androw, Androe, Andro and many more.
First found in Caithness. This family was strongly associated with the Clan Ross.
The cynic in me questions the pictish references since the picts left no written records and scholars are still trying to work out what their carvings mean.

Totally agree Falkyrn. Thank goodness for a sensible, no nonsense repsonse. Up here in the Highlands, we are in MacKenzie lands but most (80%) of surnames are McLeod.

I have recently been told by an elderly relative, that the Andrews family, originated, from scotland.
I want to learn more about Scottish culture. I thought I would start with the Clans.
I was surprised to learn of the Scottish connection, I presumed we were from the somerset Levels. My family were dealers in Peat. A link to scotland maybe.
I have heard of the 'Scottish Clearances', an answer maybe, as to why we left Scotland and would like to learn more about this.
Can you enlighten me, maybe ?

thank you for your message suggesting wikipedia I will look at it in the next few days. my son uses it a lot for his college work , but being new to the internet i still tend to think of books first ,I will try to change this habit .
