James Driscoll & wife Mary Keefe born in Ireland. Moved to Cardiff before 1852. Three known children:
1. Joanna/Annie O'Driscoll born circa Dec.1852 Cardiff.
2. Ellen Driscoll, born 20 Sept.1864 Cardiff.
3. Daniel J. Driscoll born circa 1865 Cardiff.
Suspect that James & Mary (Keefe) Driscoll had other children.
All three children (Joanna, Ellen, Daniel) went to U.S. In 1900 U.S. Census Daniel says he came to U.S. 1850 (before he was born!) & in 1910 says to U.S. 1887. Joanna was in U.S. by 1879 and Ellen by 1887 (her records say 1873).
I know there were lots of Irish Driscolls in Cardiff but can anyone help find this family there?

Cas- I think you have found them!
I thought there were more than 3 children.
I know Joanna went to U.S., married & had family. Perhaps at the time of 1871 census she was working and living away from home.
Ellen also went to U.S., married & had children, as did Daniel. All three of them lived near each other but I've been unable to find parents or other siblings.
Many, many thanks for looking them up so quickly.
- While I was typing this I just got your last message. 1851 Census- yes please.

St Marys Cardiff, no address think this is a lodging house as all are lodgers. To many to list.
James Driscol 28 mar, lodger, Lab, Ireland
Mary Keefe 25 wife, mar, lodger, Ireland
Johannah Driscol 12 lab dau Cardiff
(12 is what it states could be an error of 12mths? it states dau, but they are too young to have a child of 12?)
Also on the previous page in same place/lodgehouse is:
Catherine Driscol 50 lodger, wid, Charwoman, Ireland

Thanks again Cas.
James & Mary probably married a year or two before 1851 census. Johannah more likely to be 12 months old.
Have been trying to find family in 1880 U.S. or 1881 UK census (familyserach.org) but no luck yet, so it's wonderful to have them located earlier in Cardiff.

I think with her surname down as Keefe they may not have married until after 1851. Also there is a poss that Catherine maybe James mother?
Will check Freebmd to see if I can find out.
Will also check 1881

Marriages Jun 1867
DRISCOLL James Cardiff 11a 372
KEEFFE Mary Cardiff 11a 372
If you get this cert you can find fathers names
You can also check birth years for other children here.

There are Driscolls and Keefes in the same area of St Marys Cardiff in 1841. If you get the marriage cert, I would ask for a look up to see if you can match fathers names in 1841.
Cannot find them in 1881
