Title: Look Up Request: Sarah Ingleson/Hardisty
Post by: hilsisme on Thursday 19 October 06 22:10 BST (UK)
Hello,

I am hoping to find details about:

Sarah Ingleson whose married name became Hardisty.
Geographical area: Yorkshire. England
Rough date: born between 1800 and 1850.

She had a son in 1861 (17/3/1861) called John Hardisty. She gave birth to him in Rowden Lane, Hampsthwaite, Yorkshire, England. Fathers first name unknown.

All of John Hardisty's descendents then seem to also be around the Leeds area, Yorkshire, UK.

If anyone has any links to her and her husband or ancestors, this would be greatly appreciated.
A distant relative has sent me descendents of the John Hardisty mentioned but I am interested in going further back if I can!!

Many Thanks in anticipation,
Hilary

Hi Hilary,

I've looked on FreeBMD and this could be her marriage:

Sarah Ingleson  Mar 1856 Knaresbro'  9a 113

One of the grooms listed is a William Hardisty.

Hi Hilary,

1841 census:
Ref. HO/107/1287/9 folio 5, page 4

Yorkshire, Goldsborough, Coneythorpe

Wm. Ingleson, age 45, Ag. Lab.
Richard Ingleson, age 7
John Ingleson, age 5
James Ingleson, age 3
Hannah Ingleson, age 8
Sarah Ingleson, age 2

I have an instinct about this one, it might tie in with a Sarah on the 1861 census.

1861 census:

Ref. RG 9/3206, folio 42, page 18

Yorkshire, Hampsthwaite

William Hardisty, h. marr. 36, Farm Lab. b. Yks. Larkshill
Sarah, wife. marr. 22, b. Yks. Great Ouseburn
William H, son, 4, b. Yks. Knaresbro'
Elizabeth, dau. 2, b. Yks. Hampsthwaite
John, son, 1 month, b. Yks. Hampsthwaite

This would tie in with the info. from Nanny Jan  :)

Hope this helps, if you are unsure about the 1841 we can have another look.

Regards,

Pels  :)

Hi again Hilary,

On the 1841 census I noticed the following family next door:

Robert Ingleson, 20, Agr.Lab
Harriet Ingleson, 20
Wm Ingleson, 4 mths

I didn't make a connection straight away because I couldn't read the name of the baby. I wonder if Robert is the older brother of Sarah?

Also had a look for Sarah on the 1851 to tie the 1841 and 1861 together, like all things in life this is proving difficult?
There is a Sarah b. Knaresbro' living in Leeds on the 1851 - but older and with different parents.

William, father of Sarah is on the 1861 - no children present but there is a wife. I can't see that he remarried and I am wondering whether his wife was just not present in 1841?

Is any of this making sense - I am confusing myself just writing it!!

Have to go to work now - but if someone far brighter than me can work this out whilst I'm away ..  ..  ..  :-\

Pels   :)

Hi Hilary,

Found what I was looking for!

1851 census:
Ref. HO 107/2283, folio 303, page 25
Yorkshire, Goldsbro', Coneythorpe

William Hinglesen, head, mar. 55, Ag. Lab, b. Yks. Killinghall
Elizabeth, wife, mar. 55 b. Yks, Marton
Hannah, dau. unm. 19, At home, b. Yks. Coneythorpe
Sarah, dau. child, 12, Scholar, Yks, Coneythorpe

The enumeration at fault - not the transcription, it is therefore spelt as it is on the census return.

I checked Robert/Harriet Ingleson who were living next door to William on the 1841, in 1851 they had a brother named John, age 25 staying with them. I think it unlikely William would have named two of his sons John. Possible nephew?

According to Genuki, Coneythorpe is situated approx 6 miles from Great Ouseburn.

Hope this is of some help.

Regards,

Pels  :)

Finally:

1861 census:
RG9/3202, folio 96, page 16

Yorkshire, Coneythorpe

William Ingalson, head, mar. 64, Ag.Lab b. Yks. Killinghall
Elizabeth, wife, mar. 66, b. Yks. Marton

I checked on the 1871 and no joy, but according to FreeBMD:

Death: Mar. qtr. 1869, Vol. 9a. page 79
William Ingleson, age 75,  Great Ouseburn

Death: Mar. qtr. 1871, Vol. 9a, page 76
Elizabeth Ingleson, age 79, Great Ouseburn

Hi Hilary,

Do you ever wish you had left well alone?

According to the IGI ..  ..  ..

Sarah Ingleson:
Female Christening: 25th. December 1838
Great Ouseburn, Yorkshire

Mother: Mary Ingleson

There is a Mary Ingleson on the 1841 census:

Ref: HO 107/1287/22 folio 10, page 15
Harrogate, Kirkby Overblow, Walton Head

Abel Barrett, 18, Farmer
Robert Baldwinson, 20, Ag.Lab
Mary Ingleson, 20, F.S.
John Nelson, 25, Ag.Lab
Joseph Ellis, 15, Ag.Lab
Thomas Calvert, 55, Ag.Lab

All born in the county with the exception of John Nelson.

It is possible that William may have been the grandfather of Sarah?

Pels,
LOL ;D
I for one am glad you did NOT leave well alone. I think it is all fabulous!!

Goodness, you are obviously soooo up on all of this genealogy research stuff - I am such a newbie in comparison it is quite startling!

I think it will take me a while to get my head around it all. In fact I think I need to get myself some quality time and an enormous sheet of paper, coloured pens and a tea making machine and plot it all out thoroughly...
Ooh, just the sort of thing for an autumnal wet windy day - sounds like today BUT I may need to wait for the next opportunity as today is unfortunately full of 'stuff' to do - and not nearly as interesting as this!  :(

Thanks Pels - you are lovely for doing this for me!

Hello Hilary

Hope you don't mind me butting in but... I am just starting to research some Inglesons of my own - Farnham/Knaresborough/Leeds areas.  Through a contact on GenesReunited I have been given the following web site:
www.ullenhall85.freeserve.co.uk/WC_TOC.htm.  It is an Ingleson family tree and is full of Inglesons.  Just a chance there might be some of yours there.  Happy hunting!!

i realise its  some time since these posts  but here goes
the robert ingleson who is with/next to william ingleson (b 1796/97 killinghall nr hampsthwaite)  on the 1841 census is williams son
i have robert ingleson and harriot ingleson , my grt x 3 grandparents, on a copy of  their son austins birth certificate 1855 great ouseburn
harriot is the informant (x) and gives her residence as hopperton  , occupation of father robert ingleson is agricultural labourer
on igi
robert ingleson marries hariet benson on 20 jan 1840 goldsborough (nr knaresborough)
fathers
william ingleson
joseph benson

harriets parents are
joseph benson and isabella dickinson who marry knaresborough (RC)  in 1804

williams wife ,who is not on the 1841 census  with the family  but  is with him on the 1851/1861,  born marton 1795 , is

elizabeth grouts born *marton with grafton 1794 father james grouts (from igi)

william ingleson marries elizabeth grouts dec 1838 knaresborough

im not sure why this marriage is so late or if elizabeth is the mother of williams children or if she is his second wife,
i just want to add though that  i have noticed this kind of relaxed attitude toward church matters  in the yorkshire area before with baptisms and marriages , i think it could just be that folk didnt bother with church much or just got round to popping in church when and if it suited them , maybe also they had decided to marry the year after registration came into force for some reason
i think elizabeth might be on the 1841 census listed on her own  but not too far away

elizh ingleson age 45 b 1796 born  in county char woman
cundall , hallikeld
reg district ripon ,
yorkshire
there are a lot of "big houses" and lodges in the area so maybe she is a servant in one of them

ps note for mods ;perhaps this thread might be better moved into  in the yorkshire part of the forum

re william ingleson's and the mother of his children and wether she is  elizabeth grouts ? ? ? who he marries in 1838

james ingleson (who is on the 1841 census mentioned above age 3 with william

assuming he is williams son
from  igi
james ingleson
bapt 10 april 1836 goldsborough (nr knaresborough)
father - wm. ingleson
mother - isabella

from death index
isabella ingleson
apr/may/june 1838
knaresborough

william ingleson then marries elizabeth grouts
oct/nov/dec 1838
knaresborough

so it seems an isabella (nee ?) might be williams first wife and probably the mother of most his children and that elizabeth grouts is his second wife  ,
 its hard to tell ,
as its the 1841 census so has no relationships written

(note ; there is another william ingleson (a farmer) nr otley  b abt the same time  , wife mary,   i dont think are closely connected to this family)
