Title: Fry & Rogers families in Cardiff **COMPLETED**
Post by: Muffin41 on Sunday 05 November 06 12:35 GMT (UK)
Hi again,  I have continued to search for connections between the Sutton - see Somerset and Glamorgan threads - to the Fry and Rogers families.

I have now found the following details which I have not confirmed to date.  :'(

A James Fry married Ann Llewellyn 2nd quarter 1850 Cardiff 26 720

My James 1st wife´s forename was Ann, they had 3 children between 1858 and 1863
1871 census Wales RG10 folio 5365 page 52

I believe that Ann died 1st quarter 1879 Cardiff 11a 202

When this is true - see other threads - then

James Fry married Mary Ann Rogers 3rd quarter 1879 Cardiff 11a 329

Again Mary Ann Rogers bought her children John born 1875 and Elizabeth Ann born about 1880 into the marriage.

Thomas Rogers married a Mary Ann  ??? 2nd quarter 1874 Cardiff 11a 434
Did he die early in 1879  ???  ??? and was Mary Ann Rogers the same one that married James Fry later.  ???  :-\  :'(

Hi Muffin,

There is a poss that Mary Ann did not marry first 2 childrens father and was nee Rogers?

There is also a poss that they married in Somerset, as Mary Ann puts this as her birthplace, poss Mr Rogers was born there also?

Think the only way to know is order John's birth cert to find his father and her maiden name.

Hello Cas,
Could it be? from the 1891 Wales census.
RG12 Folio 4362 page 21 that John and Elizabeth Ann were John and Mercy Rogers children.  ???

I found this connection in the 1871 England census for Wiltshire.
RG10 Folio 1891 page 29 James Fry married Mercy Rogers  ???

I think that the only way is certs, does Talf have the marriage cert for John/Louise? this would confirm his father.

You can then look for birth cert that will confirm mother.  I would check what info he/she has.

There is also the poss with John/Louise marriage brought the families together and a second marriage resulted for Louise brother and John half sister?

I will have to check that out Cas  :)

The Ann Fry who died in 1879 was aged 51.
Have you any info about the Llewellyn family which maybe was her maiden name  ??? At the moment this is the only connection between Llewellyn and Fry.  :-\

Think you have the right marriage as on 1861 they have 10yr daughter Elizabeth, ref is on your other thread.

Birthplace for Ann in 1871 is St Mellons Glam and in 1861 St Mellons Monmouthshire, think we are looking at St Mellons Mon as the correct one? although it borders Glam, have you found them on 1851 in Cardiff as a couple?

Also need 1841 for Ann in Mon/Glam, will look with you, also check IGI.

hi
sorry but don't have relevant cert.

I looked for Rogers deaths around 1880 - poss Edwin Rogers1879 3rd Q

John born 1874 whitchurch Cardiff

looked at 1871 census Edwin Rogers & Mary Ann living whitchurch pottery

spooky that Mary Ann married Fry same 3rd Q 1879

I agree with Cas re: cert only solution

I may know some living relatives of these. Its a long shot though! My friend is a Rogers and her Father's family are originally from Cardiff, now in Barry and as far as she knows her family traced back to Cardiff to the mid 1800's. Should you come across a male Rogers (she does not remember her Grandfather's name) that married a Lillian Dora something(maiden name unknown) in the early 1900's then there may a family connection.Sorry to be vague but most of the living Rogers in Barry and Cardiff are connected as it's a huge huge family.
 ;)

Hi Talf,
I have found a Rogers family in the 1891 Wales census RG12 Folio 4362 page 21
John Rogers born 1858 married Mercy  ??? born 1860 in Mommouthshire. This could be a lead for other Rogers in the area.   :D     :D Maybe they moved to Cardiff  ???   :-\
