My G-G-Grandfather JAMES MCFARLANE was according to the 1841.51,61 census of BENHOLM , KINCARDINESHIRE born in Kirkcaldy in 1800. I can find no trace of his birth there but there is a family rumour that he may have changed his name taking his Mothers name MCFARLANE and that he may have been born a WILSON.

Does anyone have these two surnames linked in their tree in the KIRKCALDY area around 1800?

My GGGG Grandmother was Sophie McFarlane or Wilson born 1794 Fife and married a James Taylor in Dysart 1819
