Title: Death lookup-Andrew Meyers b1864
Post by: kenelms on Sunday 17 December 06 16:00 GMT (UK)
From the marriage certificate which I have of 1907 for Catherine Simmonds Myers and John Hislop where Catherine's Father Andrew is shown as deceased, I am trying to find information on his death in Northumberland -North Shields area. Andrew was born in Hamburg,Germany. Census spellings have shown Meyers and Myers. Thankyou

Have you established whether he was alive in 1901?  That would cut down the search.  All BMDs are free to search on ancetsry.com.  Choose the complete version, not the FreeBMD one though that might be a starting point as he may have been transcribed already.  You search each quarter - just as you would if you looked at the actual books.

The 1901 has him living in Willington with wife and family so he must have died between the June quarter of 1901-1907

Andrew Meyers 37  b Hamburg
Bridget Meyers 31
Catherine Meyers 13
John A Meyers 9
Maryanna Meyers 4 Mo
Samuel Meyers 6

This is the link to search the full GRO index for his death

www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

Choose “Complete BMD Index Ranges & Images 1837-1983

If you only have a dial up internet connection and you live in the UK, you may find it easier to view the same index at your nearest main library as the images take a while to download.  If you have broadband, they only take a few seconds

kenelms,

As Carole points out he was on C1901 ( 4798-156-49), taken for status as at the night of 31st March 1901.

The marriage of a Bridget MEYERS was registered in the June Qtr 1906 ( covering April, May, June of that year) with Tynemouth Register Office.  Places such as Wallsend, Willington Quay, Chirton etc, were within the jurisdiction of Tynemouth DRO.

( This Bridget either married Thomas Lillie or Harry Johnson.)

Your Catherine's grandmother , Jane, born Lynn, Norfolk married ( probably second marriage... early married to a Simmons/Simmonds) a seaman, John Anderson , from Edinburgh. Bridget married Andrew, another seaman.

Maybe he was lost at sea, and so his death was not registered locally ?

But it looks as though he died between 1st April 1901 and 30th June 1906.
