Title: Stones/Maguire, Fearboy, ca. 1880
Post by: tucson mike on Monday 25 December 06 17:14 GMT (UK)
I have obtained a birth certificate for my grandmother, Mary Anne Stones. She was born 28 April 1880 to Patrick Stones and Ellen Maguire Stones. She was born in Fearboy, Offaly, where her father was a farmer.

This is as far back as I've gotten with this branch of my family. I suppose next I should look for Patrick & Ellen's marriage certificate, but I'm not sure how to do that. (That is, I've already checked the IGI and ancestry.com, and do not know where to look next.) I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Mike,know it's a long time since you made this post,but just wondered have you noticed in the 1911 census (which are brilliant cos they are free on line) That there is a James Stones age 77yrs with wife & children living in Fearboy,wouldn't be surprised that he maybe a brother to Patrick! regards Nipy

I seem to have lost track of this thread, and was just notified today of the latest post. Anyway, I've made some progress, but I don't know if it relates to what you've been discussing.

Irish Family History site that Nipy mentioned: yes, that's been a good resource. I have downloaded the records for:
Patrick Stones & Ellen Maguire marriage, 22 July 1879;
Their daughter Mary Anne's baptism, 30 April 1880;
Ellen Maguire's baptism, 20 April 1855.
From this last-mentioned record I learned Ellen's parents were John Maguire and Anne Gaynor.
Ellen Maguire had a sister Anne, baptized 27 September 1857.
These marriage and baptism records are all from the parish of Tubber & Rosemount in Co. Westmeath, as Nipy mentioned, even though Fearboy is in Co. Offaly.

Griffith's Valuation: This is available online, as you know. There are a few Stones families listed in the townland of Fearboy, but I haven't figured out yet who's who.

1901 and 1911 censuses: Yes, I need to check these.

Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions.

yes John,just  type in familysearch into the google search box,then when the familysearch comes up click under pilot search----when  the page comes up type in James Stones----then list them under Offaly Ireland cos you will find that this area comes right on the boarders off Westmeath & Offaly ---Good Luck ---Nipy
