Found entries on Ellis Island passenger lists and am wondering if this would explain where family dissappeared.
What I have:
Arthur Gilmore (d.1894 Ireland) m.(1862 Garvagh) Mary Alexander (d.after 1901). Children:
1. Emily Gilmore (b.c1863).
2. Margaret Torrens Gilmore (b.29 June 1866).
3. Joseph Gilmore (b.1 Apr.1869)- went to N.Z.
4. Arthur Gilmore (b.7 Jan.1872).
5. James Gilmore (9 Dec.1874-aft.1894).
6. Jane Moon Gilmore (2 June 1878-aft.1894).
7. Alice Mary Gilmore (born 1884).
Arthur Gilmore's Will, dated 1894, mentions "to Edward Gilmour ten pounds sterling."
Now, Ellis Island- 11 Oct.1909 "Caledonia" from Londonderry to NY:
Mary Gilmour, 55, wid., b.Garvagh
daughter Alice Gilmour, 23, single, dressmaker, b.___? (non immigrant alien stamped over this so can't read place of birth)
Going to Mary's daughter "Mrs Creelman 1635 South 19th St. Philadelphia"
Relative in UK "Ed. Gilmour, 21 _____? Spring___? Glasgow?" (address very hard to read).
Can anyone get missing details? Am I correct in assuming that Alice did not intend to stay in US?
Think "Ed. Gilmour" in Glasgow? could be one mentioned in Arthur's Will 1894.
Could someone look for "Mrs Creelman" living in Philadelphia in 1909. Hoping that in 1910 census her mother Mary will be living with her. Need Mrs. Creelman's Christian name and name of Mr. Creelman would be a big help.

First, I have to say, under Alice's info, I think it says she was born in USA, but she is indexed as being born in Ireland.
Is Mary's age wrong on this Ellis Island record? She got married in 1862, which would make her about 8? I have looked around Ancestry and will continue. Something has to turn up.

Yes, I though Alice's birthplace might be US on passenger list but think it should be Ireland.
Mary's age is off by quite a few years. In 1901 Census (Ireland) she is listed as being 60 years old.
Still feel Mary and Alice could belong to our family- our Mary had daughter Alice, birthplace 'Garvagh' is near where she was born, widowed, relative "Ed. Gilmour" might be Edward Gilmore mentioned in husband's Will, Mary seems to leave area c1908 and I haven't found a death for her in County Derry.
Hoping that Mary and daughter ___ Creelman in Philadelphia would be in 1910 census.
Thanks in the meantime.

I do agree we are on the right track. Too much matches, and when I have found inconsistencies, it is almost always with age. I am on my way out but will work on it later, and maybe by then some keener eyes will have jumped in and find information.

One questions as I start looking: Do you have a complete list of her children do you think or could there be more?

I have a possibility for the Creelman in Phila in 1910. They are on Mountain Street (I think that's what it says).
James Creelman, head, b. @1872, Ire, Ire, Ire, police officer, emigrated 1897
Jennie, wife, b. @1881, Ire, Ire, Ire, married 4 years, 1 child
Alice M., daughter, b@ 1908, Penn, Ire, Ire
There is an aunt, I believe of James, living with them also. Ellen McBride, 56, born Ire.
I'll have more of a look around. But what do you think?

BINGO!
in the 1920 census, Mary Gilmore, age 75, mother-in-law, is living with them. There is James, Jennie, Alice and a daughter Agnes, 7. James came in 1898 and Jennie in 1899 and they were both naturalized in 1903. Mary came in 1909, alien. James is a city police officer.
I'm still looking but I was so excited when I saw this.

In 1930, Mary isn't with them, James is still working, a police sargeant now, Alice is out of the house and Agnes is still with them. They also have 3 boarders. This census lists Mary and James born Northern Ireland. James owns his home and has a radio.
I'll see if I can find Jennie in 1900. Anything else?

I didn't find anything else at the moment, but I forgot to mention Agnes's middle initial in 1930 was J.

Kath- just got back home and found all the information you found- brilliant!
Mrs. Creelman must be Jane Moon Gilmore born 1878. She was alive when father died in 1894 but no trace of her since then.
1910 Census- "aunt Ellen McBride"- wonder if she is actually Jennie's aunt. Arthur Gilmore had a sister Ellen Gilmore who died after 1877 but not sure when she was born. We have a lovely ink sketch of a bird that Ellen Gilmore drew.
Thought Mary Gilmore would have been in 1910 census with Creelmans but she must have been staying with someone else at that time. She probably died 1920-1930.
You asked earlier about list of Gilmore children- will send a PM with outline of family tree as it might take up too much room here.
Checked Ellis Island for James Creelman and Jane/Jennie Gilmore/Gilmour but couldn't find her at all. Got a James Creelman age 24 arriving in 1896 with Wm J (60) & Martha J (58) Creelman- parents?- but not sure if this is him.
There are Creelmans in Aghadowey area connected by various marriages to both my husband and I and wondering if he is part of that family.
Thanks so much for now.

No problem. It was a lot of fun. I'm surprised at 57 James was still active as a police officer. I have a couple police officers in my family (Irish also, how cliche) and they had retired from police work much earlier in life, around 40.
