Hi Everyone,
Could somebody please look up the 1841 Census for Archibald Baird, Archibald was originally from Ayrshire but moved to England at some stage, he married Mary Tapster in Sleaford, Lincs on 24/04/1845.
In 1851 Archibald was head Gardner & seedsman, Scotland.
1861 he was head gentlemans Gardner, Scotland, Ayre.
1871 he was head Gardner of 1 acre Scotland, Ayreshire.
Also anymore information in regards to this man & his family would be greatfully received.
Many thanks in advance.

I think the Archibald in the 1841 Census might, as you say, be too young. He shows with a birth year of 1816-18 in the English Censuses.
There is this submitted entry on IGI which probably relates to him, with really no additional info:
Archibald Baird - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 1816 , Ayr, Scotland - Death 11 JAN 1873
And of FreeBmd, a possible death entry for him:
Deaths Mar 1873: Baird Archibald 57 Wetherby 9a 91
Only two children showing for Archibald and Mary in the Censuses and IGI, Emily and Archibald which doesn't help with possible clues re parents' names.
Smithy, maybe the way forward is to try and at least verify his father's name through his marriage entry, from FreeBmd:
Marriages Jun 1845: Baird Archibald Sleaford 14 969

There is one entry on the OPRs that might fit:
24/06/1818 BAIRD ARCHIBALD JOHN BAIRD/HELLEN WATSON FR574 M Mauchline /AYR 604/ 0030 0114

This is the closest I can see with the revised birth year for Archibald on the 1841 index with the surname transcription slightly off, and the usual rounding down to the neares 5 years for the 1841 census. Given his age, it's not surprising he looks to be working away from home:
Archibald Barad, 20-24, gardner, b. Scotland
Address: Erchless, Kiltarlity, Inverness shire

Hi Everybody,
In the 1851 Census, Archibald was 33yrs old which makes his D.O.B approx 1818 give or take a few years, free BMD doesn't go back that far.
I really appreciate your help, it's fantastic.

Hi Smithy
FreeBMD relates purely to English/Welsh records not Scottish, you won't find anything there relating to your Archibald's birth details. You may find there details/refs. for his marriage (it shows on IGI as a submitted entry).
The 1818 OPR entry I posted as a possible for Archibald is on the official pay to view site Scotlands People www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk which covers Scottish records only. It's the only possible entry I could see coming up in Ayrshire. That, together with the possible 1841 census entry in Kitarlity, is all I could see for Archibald before he left for England.
As suggested, I think you need to try and verify at least Archbald's father's name, probably by trying to find his marriage record in Sleaford in 1845.
Regards.

Hi Monica,
Archibald Baird Married Mary Tapster on 24/04/1845 in attendance was his father John Baird, Mary's father John Tapster, the marriage took place at the Parish of Quarrington, Sleaford, Lincolnshire.
Gee you are a genius!

That looks promising for that entry on the OPRs. Have you tried finding father John in the English censuses?

Looking more than promising now for John and Helen (as per the OPR birth entry we have in 1818) as Archibald's parents. Just found this on the 1851 English Census at Sculcoates, Yorkshire:
John Baird, 55, gardener, b. Ayrshire, Scotland
Hellan Baird, 56, b. Stirlingshire
Two possible OPR entries for their marriage/banns showing on IGI:
HELEN WATSON Marriages: Spouse: JOHN BAIRD
Marriage: 23 NOV 1817 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland and NOV 1817 Inverkip, Renfrew, Scotland. (If banns they would normally be read in the parish where groom and bride were living at the time of the marriage)
Regards.

I'm a lot more confident, particularly with that 1851 Census entry in Yorkshire where Archibald ended up living, that we have found his birth entry and parents.
This looks like the parents' OPR marriage/banns on IGI. Two entries (probably where bride and groom were living at the time of the marriage):
John BAIRD and Helen WATSON: Marriage: 23 NOV 1817 Glasgow, Lanark, and NOV 1817 Inverkip, Renfrew, Scotland
The following other children (apart from Archibald) show for them on IGI, also actual extract from the OPRs:
1. JEAN BAIRD Christening: 13 FEB 1820 North Leith, Midlothian, Scotland
2. JOHN BAIRD Christening: 02 FEB 1822 North Leith, Midlothian, Scotland
3. WILLIAM BAIRD Christening: 11 JAN 1824 West Or Old Parish, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland

This info now connects with this entry on the 1841 Scottish Census, the usual rounding down in ages to the nearest 5 years:
John Baird, 45, gardener, b. Scotland
Helen, 45, b. Scotland
Jane, 20
John, 15, jeweller app.
William, 15, engineer app.
Elbert McAllister, 40, b. Scotland
Euphemia McAllister, 40, b. Scotland
Address: Madon Bank, Edinburgh St Cuthberts
