This site has been recommended by Keith Sherwood :)
Hi,
I've just done a search on Google putting in the word "Ickleton", which brought up a wonderful website<
www.ickletonvillage.co.uk
On this if you click on "Photo Archive" you get a list of nearly 80 photos, which you can view, some as early as 1879; a Joseph Baynes proudly poses in a bright red military uniform. No pictures of what I wanted, but there are some wonderful snaps from the past there - Saxon Lodge does actually appear in the distance in a couple of them. Maybe other villages have similar excellent sites.
Keith
Thanks Keith !

Can I also add that the Cambridge records are one of the more enlightened record offices, they allow the searching of records like school records without the 100 year rule all you do is sign a form that what you view is for personal use,,so they may not have their BDM parish records online like Essex but they have a far better attitude with regard recent records.

The village of Orwell in South Cambridgeshire has its own website under the name of "Orwell Past and Present." Its main emphasis is on the timber houses on the High Street and Town Green Road, with photographs of the old houses, and some research into the people who used to live in them over the years. There are copy wills, and personal recollections of the people of the village.
