Ada Crutchley was illegimate and born in 1881 in Stafford Union Workhouse and appears in the 1881 census as a 3 month old pauper there. There is no record of her death and I have no knowledge of what happened to her afterwards.
Could someone please see if they can find her in the 1891 or 1901 census?
Many thanks in advance

Hi Graham,
Have tried but cant find an Ada that matches. Do you know what Adas mothers name was and if she married later...sometimes the children would take on the surname of the mothers husband.

Hi Susan,
Ada's mother was also Ada and she married Isiah Buckley in 1886 in Stafford and they had 3 children, Violet (1890), Daisy (1892) and David Victor (1895).
You may be right and that Ada appears as Ada Buckley.
Could I trouble you to check this idea out in the 1891 and 1901 census?
Thanks

Found the above family in the 1901..if you dont have it let me know and I'll give you the details.
Sorry meant to say above that in 1891 they had a visitor staying with them...Rose Crutchley..age 9 brn Stafford.

Wonder if there is a chance that Rose is your Ada..seems strange with the surname?

That is really interesting, Susan. ;D
I hadn't connected the Buckley family together and it looks likely that Isiah Buckley is related to a Martha Buckley who was the mother of Rose Ada Crutchley b c 1877 in Haywood near Stafford who I believe is the Rose who is visiting. If it is she then Rose Ada is 1st cousin 1st removed to Ada senior. I have no other Rose's born around this time in Stafford.
I would greatly appreciate the 1901 details and the ref number and address for the 1891 census that you kindly detailed.
many thanks

Hi Graham,
The address is hard to read on the 1891 but looks like 68 Heather Buildings...the households preceeding them look like Backwalls...was in the parish of St Mary and St Chad, Stafford. The ref is
Piece 2139 Folio 10 page 14
1901 to follow

Hi Graham,
Here is the 1901.
Isaiah Buckley..head..age 35..brn Stafford...bricklayers labourer
Ada Buckley..wife..age 36..brn Colton, Staffordshire
Violet Buckley..daught..age 11..brn Stafford
Daisy Buckley..daught..age 9..brn Stafford
Josh Buckley..son..age 6..brn Stafford
David V Buckley..son..age 4..brn Stafford
They were living at what looks like 4 Cores/Cones Buildings, Eastgate Street again in the parish of St Marys, Stafford.
Just noticed that on the 1891 their neighbour was
Eliza Buckley..head..widow..age 68..brn Grosall, Staffordshire..charwoman
Sarah Crabtree..grandaughter..age 18..brn Stafford..scholar
Sent that one just incase it is related to your Buckleys.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Susan. The Eliza you found is Isaiah's mother.
