Title: WATKINS of Much Birch
Post by: Emjaybee on Tuesday 08 May 07 12:48 BST (UK)
Info wanted on Thomas Watkins and wife Isabella. Much Birch, occ Slater living at Henry Street Ross on Wye, I think 1901 census (I forgot to date the print out - silly me LOL)

Isabella was born in West Indies.

We have a family mystery involving Trinidad and a plantation there. My link is through the Scrivens line.

Soon I can offer help rather than keep asking.

Thank you for your help

Thank you

That starts a new search for me I see Isabella who came from Trinidad is listed in 1841 (foreign parts). So the link with Trinidad goes back much further in time.

This will be a great help as our family story is based on facts from 1940.

The name Scudamore (Commission Agent) is a well know county name in horse racing, another relative is said to have been well know in racing circles, some coincidence.

I shall have to start a trend for M-T as short form for many thanks. I need to thank so many Rc'ers for their help.

I have just received my census cd's from S and N so I can start doing a bit for myself.

I have dealt with S and N before, prompt service with tracked delivery.

1841 Census, Much Birch.
Living alone, Barracks? Much Marcle.
William Gunter age 75 (1766)  stone mason  not born in county

nearby  Birch common
Joseph Gunter age 35, stone mason, born Foriegn parts
Elizabeth age 33, born in county, as are the children
Mary 14
Richard 9
Thomas 5
Sophia 6 months
also a younger brother?  Benjamin Gunter age 25, mason, not born in county
so  William was a stone mason in the west Indies, and Benjamin seems to have been born in the UK, so the family returned before 1814-15

There are Watkins and Gunters here in the Church records for Much Birch

I did reply, but it seems to have been lost in the ether..........

The short version of the post was that on the 1881 census, Joseph Gunter is entered as having been born "on board the Allenhope" West Indies.

I presume the Allenhope to be a ship, so perhaps there would be a passenger register with addresses etc?

Hi there
Just came accross this post. Do you know if Thomas Watkins's son Albert William married a Jane Fisher? Am tracing the Watkins family tree on my Dad's side. I think am on the right path! Albert and Jane had son Oliver Albert who married a Rhesa Stephens. They had several sons one called Rees who is my granddad
Thanks for any help
Regards
Taffia 😊
