Title: A long shot.
Post by: Nessie56 on Thursday 17 May 07 22:43 BST (UK)
Hi
I have an old photo dated 1807. The picture is of a Thomas Brennan and his family. There is also a man on the photo who's known by the name Captain Connor.

The only information I have is that Thomas Brennan was connected to my mother in law in some way.

I believed Thomas lived in Cape town and also died there. There is an address on the back of the photo but it is hard to read.
It also states Thomas died August 15 but no year it could be 1806.
There was also mentioned in the family that Thomas was an High commissioner??????

Does anyone have any clues on what I could do now to find out more information.
Would appreciate any help

Are you sure the photo is 1807???? Photographs were only invented in 1826.
Check the archives - see listings of websites - and you will see various references to Thomas Brennan, among them a death notice in 1905.
In 1902 there is a Thomas Brennan listed as a clerk on the cape voters roll, with address listed as 1 Belfast terrace, Drury Lane.
What age is the gent in the photo and could the date be 1897?

Hi Ness,

As you mentioned in your PM to me, there is a strong resemblance  to the man in my photo.

Could I suggest something to you?  The people on the Photo Restoration Board are terrific at dating as well as  restoring old photos and may be able to help you determine the time period of your photo.

Regards,    Kathleen

I was thinking of putting the photo on for restoring.

On the back of the photo it dates 30 July 07 not sure if thats the date it was taken or when it was sent.

Do you mind if I ask other people's opinion on the site about the two photo's ???
Regards

Hi Ness,

No, I don't mind at all, if that will help you.  I know what it's like following any and all possible leads.  Is there a possibility that the man was Canadian as these men were?

I have no idea Kathleen if the man is Canadian, all I have is his name on the back of the photo (Captain Conner).

I will put it on the Restoration site and see what what happens.

Oh no

Sorry for the confusion everyone but I got it wrong. :-[ :-[

Thomas Brennon is on the left of the photo not the right.

Ness (who is thinking of  attempting the world record for confusing the most amount of people in the shortest possible time) ;) ;) ;)
