Hi,
I am trying to find LANCELOT ALLISON & brother HERBERT ARTHUR ALLISON
They went to Canada with Barnardos Home in 1903/1906 on the Dominion, I found the info on the passage to Canada and would like to know if anyone can find them on the 1911 or after Census?
Long Shot but worth a try,
Cheers & Thanks,
Mazz

Hello Mazz
Seems Herbert A. Allison came on the Dominion in 1906 aged 10 and would be about 14 or 15 on 1911 census.
There is this Herbert Allison labourer on the 1911; however, he is listed as born in Ontario. Could it be an enumerator error or he didn't want it known he was fram England and reconized as a home child.
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test16.jsp?id=141712
Just a thought.
Lancelot born Nov 1892 is listed as immigrating from England in 1902 on the census info. found here:
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test16.jsp?id=98511
Most likely an error as he has such an uncommon name and he actually immigrated in 1903 according to the National Library Home Children database at age 9. Would be about 16-18 dependent on when his birthday falls and this one is 18 on the census image.
My great grandfather was a home child and also listed as a domestic on the census.

Looking at the originals of census records posted here both Herbert and Lancelot are listed as being born in England.
-
;D
Oh thank you so much Linda, your a star.
I am so grateful.
Poor Lance & Herbert went to Barnardos Home after their mother died.
Their farther remarried twice after that! had 11 children I think.
Thanks again,
Best Wishes,
Marion,

They reply promptly and will attach an application form for request of information. (It takes a loong time for the process tho)
Perhaps they can tell you where they went.. I'll have a look..around..

Lancelot is listed on the 1911 census living in Muskoka on a farm with a family by the name of Randolph Hill. His attestation papers are found under the name of "Allinson" with Randolph Hill listed as the next of kin. He enlisted in Huntsville and his residence is listed as Hillsdale. He also married Edith Evelyn Thompson 23 Jun 1920 in Muskoka District.
Herbert is listed on the 1911 census as "Herbet" Allison b.1896, arrival 1908 living, with a family by the name of Umphrey in Ontario North, Scott Township. He (sp Allenson)later marries Gwendolyn Constance Clarice Whitehouse Feb 9 1916 in Hamilton Ontario (Wentworth County). His attestation papers are under Herbert Allinson Reg #240583 with the wife listed as "Gurendolyn".
I have found there were many boys placed in the Muskoka and surrounding districts. They were not far apart..I wonder if they knew where each other was. I haven't looked for children.
Some of the variances appear to be transcription errors but it seems both boys adopted the "N", perhaps in defense , there were many Allisons! Scarboro, Yorkshire seems to be their origin.
Feel free to send me your email in a personal message if you wish more details.
Enough of the details compute to make these both very likely yours..best of luck.!

Awe, the lad's middle name is Randolf....I'd say he named him after Mr. Hill.
I'm guessing this fellow had a good home...J.J.

J.J. You are amazing. :) Looks like they had a lifelong friendship/family with the Hills.
If anyone can find cemetaries I might be able to grab some photos for Mazz this summer, we are in the area if they are Huntsville/Muskoka.
Busy week here, its winter again!!

What can I say!
You are all just brilliant, ;)
THANKYOU
Mazz
;) ;D :D :-*

The boys may have kept in touch, judging by the name change and both adding the "N". (Although, being a twin, I can tell you that the same notion can come to a sibling miles away from you....)
Although not relevent to your search, I need to mention here, for any other researchers, that there was another boy actually listed as "home boy" on the 1911 census with Lancelot and his employer's ( friend's) household .
Frederick Parker ( 1911 says came over in 1906 , & b. Oct 1898 age 12 )
The closest listing at collections canada is PARKER, Frederick age 9 - 1908

;D ;D
Hi
Know what you mean, my husband is a twin & has known when the other twin is not well!!!!
Thanks again for the info,

I called the Hamilton Catholic Diocese, and no Allinson are buried in Catholic Cemeteries in Wentworth County and also Wellington County, just to rule that out.
Still checking....
Hillsdale is only about 20 mins from me

Wow....
The gentleman I was just talking to was the pallbearer at Lancelots' funeral. Talk about hitting the jackpot!
Lancelot is buried in Maplewood Cemetery. He had one son, Gordon, who has passed away, but Gordon's wife is still alive. The gentleman that I was talking to, his wife and Gordon's wife are out together right now :)
He knew that Lancelot was a home child and seved in the war and everything.
Mazz, I will pm you the wife's information.

The date for the marriage of Alice Allinson and Thos Hutchinson is Feb 23, 1882.
I can't find a record of death/burial for Herbert. In theory he would be back in Wentworth County?? Any thoughts..deceased overseas??
OH and just for fun, my grandfathers brother fought in the 205th Tigers as well..Hamilton.
You folks are a hoot!! :D

Just seen another Allison appeal.
I have researched this family for my next door neighbour's father.
His mother was sister to Lancelot and Herbert. She remained at Barnardo's they were sent to Canada.
He grew up an only child thinking he had no family and was delighted to be put in touch with the family in Canada ;D
I know they have also been to Yorkshire to see where the family came from.
Please PM me ;D ;D ;D

Thanks Kiddo!
I thought Alice might be a sister to Lancelot and Herbert, but maybe she is too much older(?) ???
Here is a link to the 1911 Census just in case.
