I have some information about Mahons of Northampton, Galway if you are still interested. My g-g-g-g-g grandmother was Anne Mahon, sister of your Emily I think. I also live in Australia

The townland of Northampton consists of just over 112 acres and is located about 4km south east of the town of Kinvarra. The 1st editon OSI maps shows an House/Lodge & Estate - also named Northhampton.
See : Northampton townland (http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,539460,708379,6,7) (c1835)
Griffth's valuation show that a large part of the townland, i.e. 78 acres, is owned outright (in fee) by a James Mahon. Most of the remaining land in the townland is leased by James to a Thomas P. Mahon. This Griffith's entry is dated 1855.

Source: NUI Galway - Landed Estates, Galway.
ESTATE: MAHON (NORTHAMPTON)
Associated Families
Mahon (Northampton)
O'Connell (Kilgory)
Description
The Northampton estate was owned by the Mahon family who built Northampton House. Portions of the estate were offered for sale in the Encumbered estates courts in 1851. The portion including the house was offered for sale in the Landed Estates Court in June 1865. It was purchased by Mr. Murray for over £1100. The OS Name Books record James Mahon of Northampton as a middleman for the estate of Arthur Alexander of Gort on lands in the parish of Ardrahan in the 1830s.
About the House: Northampton (H604)
The townland of Poulnaveigh otherwise Northampton, containing Northampton House, "of modern construction", was offered for sale in the Encumbered estates court in June, 1865. In 1894 Slater refers to Northampton as the residence of Captain Harry de Vere Pery a son of the second Earl of Limerick. In 1906 it was the property of James Brady-Murray and was valued at £31. Northampton House is no longer extant having been demolished in the 1930s. http://www.northamptonns.com/index.php/eng/content/view/full/131

Hi there
I live on the site of the old Northampton estate in Kinvara. We moved in here about 16months ago the site of the old estate house is owned by my financees family.
I see you mention your great grandmother was Emily Mahon from Northampton Kinvara. This is very interesting for me as I have being trying to investigate as much about the northampton estate as possible and the Mahon and Murray families.
I have been desperately trying to find a sketch or photo of the old house but I have fallen short. I have also hit a wall in relation to what happened the families that lived here.
I would really appreciate if you could get back to me about any info you may have on Mahon family and Northampton or if I can give you information.
Hope to hear from you
Kind Regards
Tommy Nilan

Hi
I'm researching the Mahon family of Belleville Co Galway who appear to be connected to the Mahons of Northampton. James Mahon of Northampton was apparently the son of Thomas Mahon of Belleville from Thomas's first marriage to Sibella Lambert. It's Thomas's ancestry I'm interested in. He was supposedly the son of Bryan Mahon of Rindifin/Drumconert/Derrycourt/Lakefield, Gort, (not to be confused with Bryan Mahon of Castlegar), who was the son of Thomas, son of Patrick, son of Thomas Moghane/Mahon, related in some way to Mahon O'Brien of Clonuane (Cluain Dubhain) Castle Co Clare, who was killed there in 1586.
Does anyone have any information about Thomas Mahon of Belleville and his ancestors? I'm looking for documentation to confirm the lineage.
Many thanks.

Hello
I would be interested in more information. Photos of the area would be great also. I am Dublin based, but from Galway city originally.
James Mahon from Northampton House, would be my Great-Great-Great Grandfather. His Grandaughter was Elizabeth ( Lisalie) O’Flanagan from Ballybranagan. Elizabeth married my Great Grand Father John Francis Ennis in 1902 in the Convent Chapel Church. Her own family home no longer exists. It was at the back of where the McMahon Petrol station is before St. Colman’s church.

Hello Brid-Were you able to verify the lineage of your Mahons? I am descended from Ann Mahon, daughter of Thomas who was son of Patrick who was son of Thomas Maghane (Mahon). I believe Ann Mahon was born in Rindifin, Gort. I received my information from a local historian in Kinvara but as yet can’t confirm the lineage. I do match with DNA with a person who is also from this Thomas Mahon through his son, Bryan. If you have found historical records I would be interested. Marg
