Title: help again please 1891 census
Post by: sossle on Wednesday 11 July 07 22:03 BST (UK)
Monica kindly looked up a family yesterday on 1901 census living at Clydebank Dunbartonshire.
James Haddow 33 ironturner b. Kilmarnock
Maggie Haddow 34 b. Mauchline Ayrsh
Bessie A Haddow 10, b. Kilmarnock
Andrew Haddow 7, b. Kilmarnock
Hugh Haddow 7, b. Kilmarnock
Alex A Haddow 5 b. Kilmarnock
James W haddow 11mon b. Clydebank Dunbarton
James Petersopn 37n lodger
William Templeton 29 lodger

James fits the age, place of birth & occupation with the James I am looking for. He also had two sons called Andrew & Hugh but they were born in Glasgow. He was widowed in 1897. I have checked on Scotlands People &   Hugh & Andrew seem to be born in Glasgow none in Kilmarnock. I can't find a marriage for them around 1890 in Ayrshire. I would have thought they'd have been married in Kilmarnock if Bessie was born there.
Could anyone look them up on 1891 census please? I'm thinking perhaps they weren't married & some of the children were Maggies. I've found a marriage for a James Haddow & Margaret in 1899 in Dunbarton, perhaps I should get this certificate. If I can rule them out being together on the 1891 census. "My" James was still single then & living with his parents in Govan.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Sue

In 1891 Bessie and her mother have the surname AULD and are living in Govan (31 Crawford St) with a McCLELLAND family - Maggie is "sister in law" to Alexander and Isabella.

Looks as though you need a later marriage!

I hope this helps a little!

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Thank you for that info.
Maybe I should look at the marriage in Dunbarton in 1899?
