Hi Shipwright,

I am tracing the history of John Gibson Campion, who is my ggg grandfather. Do you happen to know more about his grandmother, Anne Campion? I have his father Pearson's birth certificate, on which she is listed as the only parent, but is there anything known about Pearson's father or his mother Anne's side of the family?

Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Welcome to Rootschat anatale,
Shipwright hasnt been on here since 2017, hopefully they still have the same email and will be notified of your reply.

ANN Campion had more than one illegitimate child;
Christenings, Whitby, Mother Ann Campion;
JOHN 1 Dec 1786 (birth 30 Sept 1786)
PEARSON 15 Feb 1791 (birth 27 Jan 1791)
THOMAS 21 May 1794 (birth 13 Jan 1794)
WILLIAM 2 May 1796 ( birth 28 Feb 1796)

Ooh, Ann may still be alive in 1841/1851!

1841 Census

1851 Census
Whitby Ruswarp, Yorkshire
William Stead Campion, 55, Head, Widr, Mariner
Isabella Campion, 20, Daug, Unm, Dressmaker
Ann Campion, 90, Mother, Widow, Seamans Widow
Pearson Campion, 59, Brother, Widr, Ships Carpenter
All born Whitby

Now I have a theory Ann was a JANE;

JANE Campion christened 3 June 1759 Whitby, Father RALPH

A JANE Campion christened a Son RICHARD Sept 1782 Whitby

Hi Trish,

Thanks for responding - what a wealth of information. I like your theory about Jane Campion, I will have to do some research and see what I can find.

Cheers!
