Hi all,
Can anyone help with the births of two brothers Jack Reginald Hunter and George Henry Edgar Hunter born probably Auckland area 1920 - 1930.
Their parents were John Reginald Hunter & Ethel May nee Evans.
This info may help me to find the marriage date & place of John & Ethel. I cannot find the marriage in England so maybe it was in NZ.
I am in England so NZ lookups are not possible for me.
many thanks
Peter Evans

Hi Peter
There is no marriage for a John HUNTER to an EVANS.
There is however a marriage in 1945 for a Jack Reginald HUNTER to Beryl May DOOLE.

Hi Petere
You need to look closer to home. I looked up findmypast.com passenger lists for you. On 6 Dec 1919 the Bremen left Plymouth for Wellington carrying Ethel may Hunter, married, age 32, son George and one unnamed infant. Their address is given as 30 ***** Rd, Upton Park. Sorry but couldn't read the writing.
I could find no trace of John.
Was quite normal for families to travel separately. Took my Scottish half three ships over two years to come here in the 1920's.
-
Thanks for the help folks.
Bren, - That could well be one of the two sons. Thanks that may!! suggest a birth date of around 1920.
alamar - That could be them. The infant could be the other son Jack. I shall look for their births over here. However I could not find a marriage from 1913 to 1930. Thanks for your help.

My guess
John Reginald Hunter m. Ethel May Baker Oct 1918 West Ham, Essex
George Edgar Hunter b. 1918 England m. Elfreda Doreena .... last lived Tirau, NZ
Jack Reginald Hunter b. Apr Q 1919 West Ham, Essex England; died 1969 Glen Lyn, Auckland; married Beryl May Doole
I may have a photo of John Reg. Hunter, plus a lady and a man.

Thank you very much.
Your replay may answer the original post by a PeteEvans.
The son called George Henry Edgar Baker Hunter. I now suggest that he may have been born c1915 to a George Baker and his wife Ethel May Evans. This George Baker may have died 1917 and his widow Ethel May married an ANZAC serviceman John Reginald Hunter injured and in England. They have a child called Jack Reginald Hunter and John Reg Hunter adopted Ethel's son thus, the name Baker Hunter.
Thank you for the Wills giving names of grandson and great grandson.
I will need to follow up on your Will references. I have plenty of Rees relations in NZ of whom the above James William Hunter will also be a Rees descendant.

Not sure if you do have the actual death notice? Have sent it by PM.......
I think you should remove the names of the possible/probable living above. [reply #16]

George Baker (Ethel's first husband) must have died before 7/12/1918, the date Ethel married John Reg as she is listed as a widow on their marriage cert.

You are certainly a great help . Yes, this is the James William Hunter, the brother of John Reginald Hunter whose WW1 record and Will in NZ you found for me.
I got the correct birth date from Aust WW1 records, although he enlisted under a different name William Andrew Johnson. The Beec would stand for Beechworth where the birth was registered. The mother was living in a Chinese Camp. One of her earlier partners was a Chinese worker drowned in the nearby Ovens River.
I am doing a project on James William Hunter and photos have emerge of John Reginald Hunter of NZ visiting Australia, so I am trying to show the connection of the two brothers.

Thank you
These are a number of the siblings; some with Chinese features; others not; albeit, I believe Martha Hunter was still residing in the Chinese Camp after her partner Charley Ah Hing was drowned 2 Sep 1878 (two of her early children were his Lily Anna 1876 and Louise Ellen 1877).
A fascinating story.
