Samuel Knight was born in Kirkby Lancs in 1788. He was a shoemaker and I think was married to an Ann. He had a brother called Thomas and a sister called Ann.
Samuel and (Ann) had 4 children one being my great grandfather John who was born in Silecroft, Cumberland. Can anyone help please.
Thanks

The IGI has a marriage of Samuel Knight & Ann Kirkby 20 NOV 1824 Whicham, Cumberland
Perhaps you should post to the Cumberland board and request a lookup of the marriage

The IGI also has some baptisms:
ISABELLA KNIGHT
2 MAR 1828 Whicham, Cumberland, England
DOROTHY KNIGHT
11 DEC 1836 Whicham, Cumberland, England
JOHN KNIGHT

Interesting that he was born in Kirkby Lancs and married a Kirkby from Cumberland!

Thanks for all that info - I must admit I did not know about Isabella and John.
As Samuel had a brother called Thomas perhaps the young Thomas was Samuel's nephew. It is strange that Samuel was born in Kirkby and his wife's maiden name was the same - is it too much of a coincidence? Thanks for you advice, I will ask people in Cumberland to look up Samuel and Ann's marriage.

Hello - this is an old thread but I have Samuel Knight died 1795 of Cockfish Hall, Kirkby-in-Furness as my 6 x great grandfather. Father of Agnes, James, John, Richard and Thomas. His wife was called Anne. I have no birth record for Samuel - or for his daughter, Agnes. No record of his wife’s birth or death. I have seen that her maiden name was Partridge but don’t know if that’s correct. By the way, your query about the name Kirkby - there are a lot of Kirkbys in Kirkby! They were the major land owners there.
