Hi there
Could someone please carry out a look-up for me?
I'm busy transcribing a page of vestry minutes from Levisham in 1843, but can't read a few names right at the end where there is a list of 'free scholars' chosen from the neighbouring village of Lockton. I believe that the surname is MASHEDAR, and I have the discs for the 1841 census, but it's still not very clear, so perhaps someone could please look them up in 1841 and 1851 (presuming that they are still in the same area.)
Here's the details that you need for 1841
1841 census HO107/1260 folio 25 page 6, and the names are of children, Joseph and Benjamin Mashedar??? both aged 9.
For those of you with images, they are two of the last six on the page.
Many thanks in anticipation!
EDIT: Found them myself in the IGI, but the spelling there is MASSHEDER

Hi
I found the IGI entries too although some of the siblings are spelled Masheder.
BMD reg for younger sibling Luke in 1843 is Massheder
1851 census Jane, Matthew, Mark & Luke only - Masheder
Good luck!

Hi again Sandra!
The document that I am actually translating confusingly has the surnames spelled as Mafshedar (old style double 's' which I can't really reproduce here) and then - in the very same line! - Mashedar.
I suppose the Rev Skelton's excuse was probably that as they were from the next village he didn't really know - or care?? - how to spell their surnames! :D
Anyway, ALL sorted now.
Oh, what joy! I am the proud possessor of a copy of my g-g-g-g-grandfather's signature from 1843! :)
