Does anyone have a birth date for John Holmes who was married to Elizabeth Ireland (1823 Nottinghamshire). His death date is 15 Sept. 1837. I am also looking for any information about his parents and siblings.
Thanks

Hi Catherine & welcome
Do you know how old he was when he died in 1837? It will help narrow the search down a bit. Have you found him in any of the censuses which gives his place of birth?

What specific information do you about him?
Have you found his marriage. What information does it give - his abode at the time, witnesses names which might be helpful. Where did the marriage take place?
Was the marriage by banns or licence.
Where were his children baptised?
Do you know his age at death from his death certificate or burial or even where these events happened September 1837 - do you mean the civil registration quarter i.e. July, August or September?
Did he leave a will?
Since he died before censuses - or certainly nationally surviving ones that would give a place of birth the search is likely to be harder and you need to be able to answer as much of these questions as possible to narrow down his possible birthplace.

Marriage John Holmes and Betty Ireland Ruddington 18/11/1823 (Notts FHS indexes)
According to the marriage bond on the Nottingham University site, John Holmes was of Willoughby on the Wolds, Betty Ireland of Ruddington at the time of marriage. Both full age.

A couple of possible entries from the BIVRI for baptisms at Willoughby
John Holmes 15 Nov 1801 to William and Mary
John Holmes 10 Dec 1797 to John and Mary
In the 1851 census there is a John Holmes c1798 Willoughby at Hickling, which might help decide. Does your John's age at death indicate a birth year of about 1801?
