Title: Grandad has a nasty scratch

I know, two in one day, just having a sort-out, but promise not to ask again for a while..

Can anyone take the scratch off Grandad's face and generally work your magic, please

Have I scanned this too big?  Should I re-do it?

He was Swedish, died when he was only 33,
my Mother was only 4 and so of course I never
knew him, but I've read his letters to my Grandma,
and he sounded a very nice man.

Why were they all so serious on these studio photos,
I wonder, I would love to have seen the ancestors smiling,
was it not the done thing?

I've never seen him in colour, much more lifelike

I would love to know how you manage to blur the backgrounds

Do you have to do different layers ?

My 2 versions of the photo ..... (I used the clone stamp and it took ages) ... there must be another way

Can I just ask, not having a clue of course how you work your magic - do you know what colour clothes etc would be once you get the skin tone right, do the other colours follow automatically, or do you guess and colour each thing separately?  Or is it a big trade secret?   :)

Oh I have loads of lovely old photos of my mother's family, my grandmother was a great hoarder, bless her! Not so many on my Dad's side. Have just changed my avatar to a beautifully restored one of my mother.  Many thanks to all for your great work   :D :D
