Nice one Geoff - I had just updated previous post to show that Sarah was born in Irnham ....
-
so, did young William get adopted by the Lamberts - assuming he was born to John & Sarah ?
-
Robert Lambert 53 Head Shepherd Lincs, Swayfield
Mary Lambert 56 wife Caythorpe
IGI
Robert LAMBERT married Mary CLACK at Irnham 28 May 1832 (perhaps CLARK, although I knew someone called CLACK in Lincs)
-
John CLARK bap 4 Sept 1825 Sempringham, son of Mary CLARKE ... less than a mile away from Pointon, his stated birthplace in 1851.

Thank You, Newf and GeoffE for all your help. I will have a good look at the info. Dont think William was adopted he was married in his birth name. His marriage details are William Henry Clark. Bourn 7a 579 Ann Speed Bourn 7a 439. Married March 1876. dob William 1852. Ann 1856. As the William you found was a farmers boy he could be the one, possibly learned to ride on the farm as later he became a Horseman on the railways. Will have to see if I can get a marriage certificate that will possibly help. Thanks again, Appreciated.

Dont think William was adopted he was married in his birth name.
Not adopted in today's sense - merely taken into the family and raised as thier own.
One frequently sees this - and then a known 'real name' is taken up on marriage ...
The other day I finally traced a Charles Fellows born 1868 in Maidstone - he didnt show up before the 1891 census ... a lot of research showed his mother co-habiting with a NOBLES in 1871 and a BINFIELD in 1881 - but he married as FELLOWS !

Newf, Thanks again, I tried to get onto that Bourn spreadsheet but no go. Haven't got into all this comp stuff yet. My Grandfather never spoke about his family so its making it difficult. I spent many happy hours with his Mother Ann Elizabeth Clark nee Speed but the family were never mentioned, more's the pity. Oddly enough I've managed to get back to early 1700 with Ann Elizabeths family. Appreciate your time.

Hi, Appreciate the tip. Will Try
-
To sum up things (as I see it)
Mary CLARK had an illeg son John in Sempringham/Pointon in 1825
She married Robert LAMBERT in Irnham in 1832
John CLARK married Sarah SLATER in 1850
A son William H CLARK was born in 1851 (assumed, not proven)
In 1861, this son was living with his grandmother (Mary) now Mrs LAMBERT.
In 1871 he was still with them, named (by accident or design) LAMBERT.
In 1876 WH CLARK married Ann Elizabeth SPEED.

GeoffE, Can't thank you enough for all this information Great news.
Appreciated. Thank You.

Hi
Reading your posts Gales, it appears that we may be distantly related. William H Clark was my great great grandfather. His son Ernest was my grandfather's father.
I wondered if you might have any other information about him that you wouldn't mind passing on?
I am new to this site and am not sure how to message you privately.
