Hi all, I wonder if anyone has access to 'The National Roll of The Great War - Luton & District' & could do a look-up for me please.
I'm after a George (Herbert) Day & his father George (William) Day. George H would be about 26 years old in 1914 & George W about 49. I'm hoping there might be a reference to them as civilians, as I cannot find any record of either George in the services (George W was probably too old).
I know it's a long shot, but as I cannot pinpoint any death entries for them, especially George W, I need a bit of luck. The family were originally from Barrow-in-Furness, but I'm not sure when they moved to Luton. They are not at Stockingstone Rd before the war & only Alice plus her son-in-law are there afterwards. Really need to find info on George H, who I've only recently discovered is my grandad.
What info I do know about the family in Luton is from the CWGC, shortened details are: Lance Corporal PERCY WILKINSON DAY who died age 22 on 13 October 1915 and Private F DAY who died age 22 on 28 August 1918. Next of kin: Alice Day, of 9 Stockingstone Rd, Luton, and the late George William Day.
All help & advice gratefully received. Regards, TonyR.

Hello Tony
I am just looking at the book, which is only listed by surname & initials.
Sorry there are no G Days at all. Also it does not mention anything about your Percy & F Day.
Good luck, regards John

Hi John, thanks for your time. I suppose it was hoping too much for an entry, but worth a shot. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Regards, TonyR.

Frank DAY [same info as you have above] is listed on the Stopsley War Memorial...Stopsley War Memorial is online - so have a look?
Percy is not listed but he may be on the main Luton War Memorial which hasnt been compiled yet.
It may be worth contacting Luton Library to see what information there is on the Road and the family [phone books / electoral records]?

Hi Cathy, thanks for the ideas. I've searched the electoral lists at Bedford Archives & neither George appear at Stockingstone Rd, just Alice (re-married) and son-in-law. I didn't think about phone books but ran out of time anyway, searching other family lines from Bedford area, which just means I'll have to get down again in the future. Thanks again. Regards, TonyR.
