Title: OAKLEY - 1841 Look up please
Post by: Maurella on Saturday 15 September 07 10:53 BST (UK)
I am wondering if some of my ancestors are in the parishes missing from ancestry and would be grateful if someone could help me look for

George Oakley born c1811 in Herts (Barnet ??) (christened St Michaels)
Eliza (wife) born c1821 in Middx
Eliza (daughter) born c1839 in St Albans

I have found them on the 1851 census living in Hollywell Hill with additional siblings.

Many thanks.

Perfect - thank you for your prompt reply Peter.

I think George was possibly a Baker.

Hi Marella,

Have just come across this - I know it's a long shot as this post is a few years old, but if you see this reply please contact me - I have a connection with these Oakleys.

Thanks
Carole

A George Oakley was publican at the Kings Head pub in the Market Place in the centre of St Albans between 1846 and 1850. He is referred to in the London Gazette on the 25/10/1850 as an insolvent debtor.

There were two George Oakleys in the town in the 1851 census and I am not sure whether this is the one you are interested in.

Hi Carole

Many thanks for your message.  Although not of direct descent of George I am of his brother James so would love to know more and how we link in.

As Jon pointed out there are two George Oakley's in St Albans in 1851 and indeed three in 1841.

Maurella

Hi Maurella

Firstly apologies for spelling your name incorrectly previously, and thanks very much for replying.

I am not actually descended from George Oakley, but am related to a descendant of his. George Oakley(1811)'s son George(1841) had a daughter Annie who married my great uncle Frederick Bingham, and it was through their grandaughter that my interest in family history began - she left me a suitcase full of photographs - mostly unnamed, and some of these I think may be of Oakleys. Also another relative of hers has pieced together a fair amount of the Oakley family tree. I wonder if you could PM me about this?

Hoping very much to hear back from you
Carole
