William Knowles born in Leeds but died in Brynchoch Glamorgan 24 April 1886. Where would he be buried?
-
Hello.
I don`t really know but you have a choice of three, Duffryn church Bryncoch, St Catwg Cadoxton and St Johns churchyard Skewen, the oldest of these churchyards would be St Catwgs Cadoxton, hope this will be of some help Margaret.
-
Thank you. Do you know if they on the national burial index?
-
Hi!
Sorry I havn`t got a clue about that, why not try the access point at Neath they have the records there for Skewen and Cadoxton, Cadoxton being the oldest churchyard would be your best bet..Marg

Thank you will do that

Hi,
Some friends of mine are in the process of transcribing the gravestones in Cadoxton church. They will be passing their work onto Glamorgan Family History Society, which may help if you dont mind waiting a short while!

No probelm and no rush thanks

Glamorgan FHS has a CD rom of the churchyard for St Johns in Skewen.
The main church for the Bryncoch area would most likely be Dyffryn. There are were also a few chapels in the area.
Do you have an address in the village - or could it even have been the farm that also bears the name of the village
-
Thanks for this information. I will try to get some more information

Glamorgan record office hold copies of the burial registers for each of the main churches in the area around the time in question.
It may be worth contacting them to see if they can look up the approx date and see if he is listed.
I would suggest the following order
Dyffryn
Cadoxton
Skewen
of course he may not even have been buried in the locality.
but its just a suggestion
Contact details and details of holdings for Glamorgan record office can be found on their web page - holdings are listed under leaflets.

If you can narrow down where he is I can take a trip over to the right one and look for a grave.
I live mid way between Dyffryn and Cadoxton - less than 5 mins and approx 5 mins from Skewen.
Let me know if I can be of any help.
-
Thank you I will drop them an e-mail

Was in Dyffryn on the weekend, had a quick look around the churchyard - its not very big. Couldn't see your guy, but the oldest area had a number of stones where names could not be read, or areas where there are possibily stones missing.
Let me know if you need any other help.

The index of burials for Cadoxton produced by Glam FHS runs up to 1899 and there is no Knowles listed.
Maybe he was buried in the civil cemetery.

Thanks you for looking. I have some more leads to follow up but not had chance yet
