Title: Hanney Lookup Request
Post by: HiFly on Tuesday 06 November 07 09:57 GMT (UK)
From the 1861 Census I have a James Vallis (Valles/Vallace) b~1820 in East Hanney viz - Residence Seymour, Burbage, WIL - Source RG9/1309 Folio 21

I havn't been able to find him on earlier Census 1841/1851  to establish any siblings or parents.

Could SKS have a look at the Parish Registers in West Hanney (which I understand covered East Hanney as well) to see if there's any Vales/Vallis etc. about ??

Nearest habitation to East Hanney that had Vallis families was Headington, OXON (to my knowledge).

TIA - HiFly

I see he had a change of wife between 1871 and 1881 census (from Mary Ann to Sarah), you could always get his marriage certificate to try to find out father's name, if he doesn't get found on the census/parish register.

This looks a possible -

Brides - Sarah White or Ann Bridgeman

Unfortunately the Hanney PRs that have been transcribed to CD by the Oxfordshire Family History Society, finish in 1752 for baptisms, 1812 for marriages and 1783 for burials.   There are no VALLIS or variations listed.

100% spot on CatOne - It's Sarah White b1814

Thanks for confirming it - HiFly
