Title: Fife families in Pennsylvania, USA.
Post by: tommacgregor on Wednesday 09 January 08 03:56 GMT (UK)

Hello fellow reseachers,

As a way of saying thanks, a lady living in Pennsylavania that there is quite a useful site that has details of several Fife people who emigrated to Pennsylvania. It's:

www.co.westmoreland.pa.us

Kind regards,

Tom.

Hello "Beansgram",

That's a very generous offer and is very much appreciated. I did, in fact, try it out here in Australia and everything seemed to be O.K. I simply followed the prompts and entered Beveridge and was given the detail that I wanted. It would appear that the dates are pretty "recent" compared to the dates that I am currently researching, but, in all probability, I haven't gone too deeply into the site.

If I remember correctly, you were looking for some help on a specific family in Fife. I gave details of that family on RootsChat and advised you accordingly. Perhaps I have my wires crossed and I am confusing you with someone else?
Such are the penalties of age!

Any assistance that you need - just ask.

As always,

Kind regards,

Tom.

hi tom  i did read the post regarding that family and have attached my documents to the approprite people in the file.  took me awhile to figure out the scan and attach.  but i think that also comes with age. also about the web site as you know our country has not been inhabited quite as long as england.  official record keeping did not start till about 1900.  however paul miller ruff and old time genealogy byff created a library here of old church and cemetery records for this area it is quite extensive.  so if it is not listed at the courthouse i could most possibly find it in the ruff collection all i need is the persons particulars to do a search. this is not available on line and would require a trip to the library which is only minutes from my house and i dont mind helping others if there is something there they might need for their research    yours always from across the way   beans

Hello "Beansgram",

Glad to her that you have extracted the details on the Birrells tha I posted.

It's much the same here in Australia. Just for a bit of a laugh, I thought I would ltake a look to see if there was anything about some of my ancestors being transported from Scotland to "the colonies" - i.e. Tasmania, Port Arthur.

I really opened a can of worms! I read of a Livingstone, (my mother's Maiden Surname) being transported for being involved in the stealing of some firewood! It appears that she married an ex-convict and they lived happy ever after with their kids in the Land of Oz.

My Grandfather Livingstone, (William Livingstone) went to America after World War I, and I believe that he worked in West Viginia for a time. However, he returned to the Auld Country and died at my parents home in England.

Lovely to hear from you.

Kind regards,,

Tom.

Hi, just caught this post , some of my family went to Pennsylvania, not westmoreland but Coalport, Clearfield and Mcintyre, is their a similar site for them that you know of?

Some of the family moved back and forward some stayed and served in the American forces in WW1.

Family name is Laing.  Thanks Evelina
