Hi Sue

Would have thought that would be the one as Manthorpe is only a mile away from Grantham.

Hi Sue

I would just give the usual warning that record you found is a submitted IGI entry.  This doesn't make it wrong, but it really needs checking next time you go to Lincoln. :)

IGI Batch C011244 has 96 baptisms for 1778 - less than in 1777 or 1779 ... neither of the Sarah's who had fathers called Robert were called CHRISTIAN.

Thanks for your advice Geoff, I am going to look next time I go to the archives.
Maybe see you there as you go to Lincoln sometimes don't you !!
Sue
What does it mean when it says submitted is it someone researching their tree or is it someone who has nothing to do with this line

I'm afraid that the methods and intentions of the Church of Latter Day Saints and its members are not really within my area of knowledge.  Nor can I explain the difference in content of the batches.

The submitted batch has
Mary CHRISTIAN (of Robert and Mary) 31 Oct 1773
the extracted batch has
Mary CHRISTIAN (of Robert and Mary) 31 Dec 1775

While both may be true baptisms, I can't see why they are not in both batches.

I normally have a couple of days in April each year at Lincoln Archives.

Hi Sue,

I will check Manthorpe parish records on Saturday in Grantham library under both surnames and will let you know the outcome.

Allegedly they aren't in Lincoln either :( http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/Manthorpe/#Church

but Lincs Archives claims to have

Manthorpe C 1848-1977, M 1849-2003, B 1849-1993 http://microsites.lincolnshire.gov.uk/archives/section.asp?docId=28402

But then, if you read the first link, you'd know there was no church at Manthorpe until 1848 ;) so perhaps Little Gonerby was the place to look.

Reading for myself the Genuki link I posted  ::) I see
# Parish registers date from 1849. Any entries from a previous date will be in Grantham.

# The parish registers for Manthorpe have NOT been deposited in the Lincolnshire Archives.

Hi Sue

Have rechecked Grantham Library today and the librarian there says there are NO Manthorpe parish records deposited with the library so she can only assume they are still held at the church itself.

Sorry

Sue,

Geoff is correct that until 1849 Manthorpe-with-Little Gonerby was just a township within the large parish of Grantham, so the record you are looking for should be in the registers for Grantham.

David.

Hi Sue,

Did you find the answer to Sarah Coddington(nee Christian)? only I found 2 marriages of Christians on St Wulframs parish records Reel 887 Sect.1/25.

Page 17
Mary Christian & Thomas Weaver  6th May 1790. Witnesses  Mary Weaver
Could not read 2nd witness writing too small.

Page 64
Ann Christian  of Manthorpe & Thomas Jackson of Great Pounton?(?Ponton or Pointon) 14th May 1795.  Witnesses William Marshall & William Scarborough.

Did not find Sarahs but will be in the library again on Wednesday so I will have another look and see if I can find her birth & marriage.
