Post by: cgilchrist on Wednesday 23 January 08 03:38 GMT (UK)
Looking for information on Wm. Kay b. 1844 Lanark. I cant find a record of death and he perhaps died in 1870+, prior to 1871 census, in Clyde area.
thanks for any info.

hi cgilchrist

Had a quick search on Ancestry and there are about 3 William Kays born on that year, do you have any parents names to assist? Brithplace would help too.

thanks Tom, I believe the birthdate to be April 16th and parents were Robt Kay & Eliz. Morrison. Not sure exactly where in Lanark he was born.

Hi cgilchrist,

Robert Kay married Elizabeth Morrison 08 Oct 1843 Lanark, Lanrkshir

On IGI, children were

Elisabeth Kay 10 Oct 1852 Lanark, Lanarkshire
John Kay 14 Aug 1855 Lanark, Lanarkshire
George Kay 24 Mar 1858 Lanark, Lanarkshire
Jessie Kay 29 Mar 1860 Lanark, Lanarkshire

A big gap between marriage and first child shown.

On 1871 Scotland census at 16 Carrick Street, Glasgow

Robert Kay 50 b 1821 Lanark, Lanarkshire - Book Blocker
Elizabeth Kay 48 b 1823 Lanark, Lanarkshire - wife
Robert Kay 21 b 1850 Lanark, Lanarkshire – Brass Finisher
Elizabeth Kay 18 b1853 Lanark, Lanarkshire – Book Bager
John Kay 15 b 1856 Lanark, Lanarkshire – Pawnbroker Asst
George kay 13 b 1858 Lanark, Lanarkshire - Pawnbroker Asst
Jessie Kay 11 b 1860 Lanark, Lanarkshire – Scholar

On the 1881 census at 8 Ward St, St Rollox, Glasgow –

Robert Kay 60 b 1821 Lanark, Lanarkshire - Bookbinder Blocker – Lodger
with Laurence family.

I suspect Elizabeth (mother) has died. I suggest look up birth certificate of
John Kay 14 Aug 1855, this year gives extra info, may get extra births there.

Tom

thanks Tom, there were indeed 2 other children married and not living with the family which explains the gap.

I would like to find out details on both Wm. b 1844 and James b 1846.
