Just to add something about my grandmothers birthday book, as there was a question about why some names were in it and others not ...
Firstly ... it seems to have been given to her (Florence Williams) July 18th, 1894 'With Baby Don's love and thanks for all her kindness to him' !! Every date has an uplifting text or quote ... some of which I remember her quoting to me as a child ! She would have been 15 years old at the time. The names and dates she recorded in it are a mixture; some have a name and a year, for e.g. her father on the 9th January ('Work as if thou hadst to live for aye; Worship as if thou hadst to die today.') ... she has just written 'John Williams, 1839'.
Other entries are a bit more full ... 11th January ('Love thyself last: cherish those hearts that hate thee') has written 'No. 2 baby Millicent, 1907' (that one being my own mother !)
And possibly the one you've all been waiting for ... 31st August ('A little explained, a little endured, a little forgiven - the quarrel is cured') ... it says 'ALICE Katie (or Hattie) Squires' ... but no year given :( Could this be the elusive Allice (Queenie) ?
Now to continue with a summary of the Ambrose's and Trowbridges of Tollard Royal, et al !
-

added Oh Lydart ...just read your post ... it gave me goosebumps ...how wonderful that you have it ... i am thinking I should start one ....

Hi Lydart,
Also bookmarking! am sending you a PM with a draft tree diagram, think it might help us all if I post it, to save the "brains like scrambled eggs" syndrome I've been into for the last half hour ;D ;D ;D
...but let me know if I've managed to mess anything up and I'll sort it...
-
Oh great, a tree..I love a tree..
-

If you e-mail me a scan of the name from the book, I might be able to see if it's Hattie or Katie...I'm not three bad at handwriting (but I'm happier if it's at least 250 years old... ;D ;D )
-
Oooh yes please....a tree.....I am getting completely lost with all the Trowbridges etc....... :-\ ;D
......dee
-
I can't find a sniff of Alice Katie/Hattie Squires on FreeBMD....or a Marriage of Sarah to a mr Squires...
-
Will this one do? till Lydart has had a chance to look at the plain vanilla version... ;D ;D
...oops, sorry - ToTB creeping in here...

Just like my brain, then... ;D ;D
...................
BTW, can we find a "Baby Don" Williams b. c1894 in the right sort of area?
don't know if he was a Williams or a Trowbridge though, she might just have been his babysitter...
-
I'll chuck this in for what it's worth....Donald Allen Williams born 1892 in Axminster..
-
Here's the possible missing Alice ... this person could have been just a friend, don't forget !
I've also checked my own mothers birthday book which was in the box of bits of paper and miscellaneous stuff, called 'FH' ... there is no Alice in that book.
I'll scan 'Baby Don' next ...
-
Here's the Baby Don inscription ... or could it be Doris ?
Oh no ... it says 'his' !!
-
Alice Katie is how I read it.....
......dee
-
I'd say pretty well definitely Alice Katie Squires. If there's no Alice in your Mum's book, she must not have been close to your Mum - or else she had already gone before your Mum began her own book.
(Did your Mum also record deceased family though? that would give a clue...)
-
I tend to think she is Alice Katie ...i am sure the "H" would have been more defined if it was Hattie ...
Are there any other capital 'H' in her book?
good one Hepburn .... ;D
deb
-
I'll chuck this in for what it's worth....Donald Allen Williams born 1892 in Axminster..
Anything on the 1901...?
Hmm... son of Louis & Emma, both b. Branscombe. Not hopeful...
-
I wonder if Baby Don's dad was a Donald and living nearby to Florance ....
Where was Florance in 1891 .... I forget! :-\
deb
-
I think both my mothers and grandmothers books were to note down birthdays ... any other notes were extra. There are one or two deaths noted too ... but it would seem to be mostly birthdays on the relevant date, and sometimes the year.
Alice Katie is not in mothers book. I had wondered about Hattie as there is a strong thread of dyslexia (had to type that three times !) running through the genrations in the women in our family.
I suspect Baby Don was someone Florence had been minding ... oh ! Just had a thought ... I think Florenec is missing from one of the censuses pre her marriage in 1904 ... I'll check ... she might have been with a family with a baby Don ...
-
Yes ... she's missing on the 1891 census !
I wonder ... she'd be (quick counting on fingers) 1891 - 1879 = 12 years old ...
The birthday book must have been a birthday present of her 15th birthday from Baby Don !
-
There's this ...
1891 RG12/936/111/29
4 Tower St, St Thomas, Winchester, Hampshire
Edward Wareham, head, 56, bricklayer, b. Sparsholt, Hants
Mary A Wareham, wife, 48, b. Bristol, Somerset
Thomas M Brealy? visitor, 4, b. Winchester, Hants
Florence Williams, boarder, 11, b. Bishopstoke, Hants
I wonder if thats her ? Bishopstoke is near N. Stoneham ... they are all under S'hampton airport now I think !
-
Is there any Richardson's in the family???
-
That could well be her.....the places of birth seem to change slightly nearly every census as did the place of residence.
.....dee
-
Not that I've ever heard of ... and none in the birthday books !
-
I think the moving a few miles between each census could well be accounted for by the ag.lab life-style ... tied cottages go with the job; no job ... have to move somewhere else !
I have maps for Dorset and Hampshire, and all these places are probably only half an hour or less (by car) apart ...
-
A flight of fancy...bear with me...there is Florence Williams Grand daughter living in Honiton with Louise Richardson, Melina, and Will M ...in the same street there is Donald Duncan age 4...
-
I agree ... probably a flight of fancy !
-
LOL ;D shot me down in flames...
-

Blimey - I have Warehams on my tree, all bricklayers...but...all mine seem to be b. Dorset.

I think this is Florence in 1901 ...
RG13/1033/12/7 ... working as a cook on the Isle of Wight ... I can certainly remember my grandmother talking a lot about the I o Wight, thats eh had been there as a young woman ...
She is down as Florence A Williams ... but if you say Eliza quickly, and if the enumerator couldnt hear properly, Eliza comes out as A-liza !!
-
Not a ToTB, but didn't Dee's Hunt have her Bauers as cooks in IoW?
I knew I'd recalled it from somewhere...did the IoW suddenly become the place to be as a seaside resort in the 1900s?
ADDED...can't get RG13/1033 12 7 up, says no match ...? ;D
-
Sure did....Louisa Isabella Bauer was a cook at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight! :D :D

All due to it being a favourite holiday place of Queen Victoria ! Its where the posh and rich went to retire or for holidays away from the smoke of London !

Same here...... ???
Shall have a search....

It's RG13/1033/38/ 7

Are you sure that this is her, Lydart?

All due to it being a favourite holiday place of Queen Victoria ! Its where the posh and rich went to retire or for holidays away from the smoke of London !
Sadly, it wasn't quite that fab when my Mum took me there when I was 16 - Bembridge was OK, but some other bits were yuk...
Crass joke from schooldays, you'll know it I'm sure...
Q: What's brown, steams, and comes out of Cows?
A: The Isle of Wight Ferry... ;D ...groan...
I know a worse one than this about the IoW, but I can't post it here... :o
-
;D Hmmm. ::) ::)
Norris Castle - Isle of Wight
It is in private ownership and is set in 100 hectares of private land plus ancient woodland.
I'm off to my coverlette. Nitey all.
-
I think I'm putting this away now too ... its late, and its been a l - o - n - g day !
Thank you everyone for your hard work ... but still no sign (I think, unless I missed it ?) of Henry George Williams ??
Keep searching please !
-
Yes .. I know it says Gosport , Dee ... but its the only one I even found ... and it fits with what she herself said to me, about working on the IoW.
Picture it ... the posh lady of the house fills in the census, or answers the mans questions ... would she actually know which bit of Hampshire Florence came from ? And say 'Eliza' in a frightfully 'posh' voice, and it comes out with an 'A' at the beginning !
I dont see there;s any other way of checking it is her ... and she was a cook all her working life, ending up as head housekeeper at Lords Cricket Ground !
-
Ok.....at least you now have the updated reference for Florance in 1901..... :D :D
As for Henry George...... don't know what else we could find....need the 1911 census I think....he is with his parents in 1901 as George, there's a possible marriage to an Agnes Wait.....but must emphasise the possible.....
Unless anyone else has other ideas, I can't find anything more on him.....

great, Dee

Of all the bits and pieces I have found today, they are already covered except for one ....I don't think Sarah Trowbridge, b 1843, d.o. Samuel Trowbridge and Ann Sturney was found in the 1861 Census......
I think this might be her.....
RG9/ 1336/ 79/ 4

Sarah Trowbridge 19 Servant at the Cashman Inn born Wimborne, Dorset
And there is this marriage ......
Sarah Trowbridge married Charles Amey Jun Qtr 1862 Wimbourne 5a/ 505 ???
Added...***Think this one can be ignored ....found the couple in subsequent censuses and the children's names don't show any link with the Trowbridges that you have been following.....

re ..the marriage for William Williams and Hannah ??
I can't find it on IGI , so I have been scrolling through all hannahs born circa 1796 in Tarrant Rushton;
Obviously I don't know if these are the right ones ..but maybe somewhere names may show up with their parents that may give us a clue ..like Elvina LOL

Hannah Drew

these are the only two hannah's born in TR for the years 1796 and 1797. Hannah seems pretty consistent with her age ;

Hello all, and particularly Lydarts (its your cousin, Rich, here)
Toni has just introduced this site to me, he contacted me, through another site, whilst researching Samuel Trowbridge.
Gosh what a great bunch of contributors and what a load of reading to be done on this thread (I should be working). At the moment, I think I can only take from you all but, maybe, I can contribute later.

Hi Deb, I'm back - looks like Ada b. Bournemouth...
-
Not a sausage on the marriage!!!
-
Hi Deb
You're good at this stuff ! Yes, that marriage and Isaac living in Monmouthshire seem to be the thing. He's the one who married the lady my mother thought was called Bertha Lewis ... but in actual fact the name shoudl have been Alberta Louise something, Lewis not being the surname of course !
How strange that more than one menber of the family should hed for Wales, after so many generations in Dorset/Hampshire ... a case of 'go west young man' ... perhaps ! Though one went so far west as to end up your side of the pond, Debs !
Now Debs ... can you find any children for Isaac & Bertha ? (Or did you ... check back, Lyd)
-
Hi Lydart
Hope your 'off' day has gone well ... glad to see you back.. ;D
I did see a child born in 1917 surname Williams , mother's maiden name RIGGS in wales ...but wondered if Alberta would be having kids that late in the game...
will look further
deb :)
-
I didn't intend to have a 'day off' ... it just went that way ... :-\ :-\ :-\
Whats the info for that one Deb ??
And do you have the census refs for the other stuff please ?
-
Evening Deb, Lyd,
Just going to read through last, :o how many pages... lol ;D .... Back later.

hi Lesanne ;D
This is the only birth I can find we maiden name : Riggs;
Hedekiah Williams :o
1917 Mar
Riggs MMN
Merthyr Tydfil , Breconshire, Glamorgan, Mid Glamorgan
will try and find the references ...arrggghhhhhhhhhhhhh :-\
Maybe Alberta didn't marry Isaac ....
deb
-
HEDEKIAH ????
Good grief ! Whatever happened to all those good old family names like Samuel, John, Isaac ...
Deb ... don't forget that Williams as a surname in Wales is just about as common as Jones, Evans, Roberts ... in fact, probably commoner than those !
-
hey Lydart ...
remember page 1 of part 1 ... this is what you said
It looks like a simple job to find them forwards in time ... but ... if only their name was Zurbanski or Fazackerly-ffortescue, instead of Williams ...
well now you may have a HEDEKIAH ;D ;D ;D as opposed to a Head-ache -ea LOL

re ..the marriage for William Williams and Hannah ??
I can't find it on IGI , so I have been scrolling through all hannahs born circa 1796 in Tarrant Rushton;
Obviously I don't know if these are the right ones ..but maybe somewhere names may show up with their parents that may give us a clue ..like Elvina LOL
igi'
Hannah James
22 JAN 1796 Tarrant-Rawston
parents ; Luke James and hannah
Hannah Drew
05 FEB 1797 Tarrant Rushton, Dorset,
parents ; Samuel Drew and Elizabeth
these are the only two hannah's born in TR for the years 1796 and 1797. Hannah seems pretty consistent with her age ;
1841 ~ 45
1851~ 54
1861~ 55
deb
I had a look at the OPC page, the only one transcribed for T Rushton was Hannah DREW 1797 - I'll see what I can do with her and her family, if anything...might get a naming convention out of it if nothing else.
William & Jane's children were Jane, Ann Elizabeth, and Elvina - there's an unusual one! must have come from somewhere...
ADDED: just found an Elvina Drew dau. of George & Hannah, chr. 16.9.1827 Tarrant Rushton, so I reckon William Williams' wife must be Hannah Drew, it's a family name...
-
WOW WEEEEEEEE bambletye ...How fabulous ... I was hoping Elvina's name would come into play ...Thanks for following up.
at the mo I am going thru the complete marriage index looking for Alberta Louisa Riggs ... she is proving difficult ...
I have gone thru 1893/4/5 ...nothing yet ...
Geezzz ..It has to be her ...as Alberta L Riggs is around 1881 and 1891 then nothing except for ALberta Louisa (= isaac Williams) on 1901 , correct POB and DOB ...actually so spot on it's unreal ...arrgghhhhhhhhhhh she is driving me nuts ..LOL

They all seemed to breed like the proverbial in the 1800's didnt they !
I think I need to absorb all this and have a think where to go now ... or whether all these people are getting so far distant that the DNA is getting thinner and thinner !
We'll be back with William the Conquerer soon ... though I think all these ag.lab's prove that isnt likely; besides, I rather be descended from good common working men with dirty hands than nobility !!
That site of Toni's ...

Good morning all scavengers !
I've had a look at all this stuff, and I'm amazed at how much info there is out there.
However, do we seem to be going sideways if you see what I mean ... ??
We have Drews, Burden, Hatchetts ... and they are getting further away from what I think of as my ancestors ... they are only connected by marriage, and not genes !
If you still have strength for some more, how about pursuing the line through the Sturneys ... John Sturney, father of Ann Sturney, mother of my gr. grandmother Mary Anne Trowbridge (who married John Williams) ?
There are Sturney/Starney/Sturmey from the Studland and Swanage area of Dorset ... do these link in ? I found a Caleb Sturney, son of (guess who !) Caleb Sturney married 10/June/1799 in Studland ...
The Studland Sturney's may also turn out to be non connected except perhaps by marriage, but who knows !

I was checking the Dorset OPC site which has been so very useful in the past ... alas, nothing transcribed for Hinton Martell, only H. St Marys ...
... maybe we ought to join some of these OPC schemes for the benefit of others (and ourselves) and get transcribing records !
Do we trust the IGI ?? I've often been led astray by it !
Oooo ... yes, Phillimores are MUCH better than IGI. Can you access them online Toni ??
The Sturney name is variously spelled Sturney, Starney, Sterney, Sturmey ... which if you think about it could be a lack of spelling ability on the owners of the name, and also mis-transcription by the transcribers of bad hand-writing ! I'd do for anything that is vaguely Sturney-ish !

Bingo ! You've found the Calebs ... I assume father and son ... but are they linked in ?
Keep up the good work Deb ! Its amazing what can be found out from across the pond, isn't it !
Has anyone furthered the search of the Trowbridges back in Wiltshire, to Donhead St whatnot ?
Or read that stuff I put up last night about the Trowbridge family site ? If we could link my lot in with the Donhead lot, we've got it made !
MUST finish kitchen floor ...

just found this ...
Dorset: Swanage - Parish Register,
Caleb Sturney [signs "Starney"], of Studland, & Ann Barnes, of S.
Witnesses:
Robt. Barnes and Elizabeth Harden. 10 Jun 1799.
John Sturney, & Resident in this Parish, & Buley Barnes, of this Parish.

Looks like maybe 2 brothers marrying 2 sisters ... LOL
Burial ;

I found those before ... Buley is in fact Beulah ... they are why I wondered if our Sturneys were connected to the Studland ones ... can we link them on ?
Burial ;

Now who is he ? Long Crichel and More Crichel are virtually the same place ...

IGI submitted:

I'll see if I can get anything else, plus anything useful on the Trowbridges...
-
From PRs:
William Sturmy m. Mary Young 27.3.1739 Tarrant Rushton.
27.3.1739 will still be "our" 1739 as it's after Lady Day - I don't know what IGI submitters do about Old Style & New Style dates, but 23rd March 1739 for William Jnr's chr. is just before Lady Day so it's prob. "our" 1740
-
another question ...
If William Sturney and Sarah Sargeant only had girls , who does George the grandson belong .... can't remember which census ... but Sarah was staying with the Trowbridges and george was 2 , I think ...
deb
George Sturney was 11 in 1861, grandson of Sarah Sturney, both in household with Samuel & Ann Trowbridge & family; he was 1 on the 1841, but it gave no relationship. Like a complete fool, I put him on the tree as son of John & Sarah - eek, sorry Lydart... :-[
I think he might be a bbs of one of the daurs. of John & Sarah/Sally Sturney. They did have a son, Henry, in the 1841, but I don't think George is his - unless he had a wife? We have christenings for all John & Sarah's girls except Dina, so I don't know if she were a dau. or a dau-in law...
-
Other children of Martin Shears & Joan chr. Hinton Martell:
Thomas 23.9.1743 (assume died)
Thomas 2.7.1748
Jane 5.1.1750
IGI submitted
but submitter must have got info from somewhere; PR lookups I guess but as there's nothing online I can't confirm
-
I think this is what we've all been scratching around for days on end to find...haven't we... :-\
Samuel Trowbridge (22) Bach, Lab. of Wimborne.
(Father: Ambrose Trowbridge, Lab)
m. 16.4.1843
Ann Sturney (24) Spinster of Hinton Martell.
(Father: John Sturney. Lab. )
Witnesses John Lacy, Diana Sturney.
We know John & Sarah/Sally Sturney had a Dina, at one point I wasn't sure if she was dau. or dau. in law, but this seems to confirm her as dau. Diana and sis. to Ann.
Samuel's father must surely be Ambrose b. 1775, there being no other suitable candidatethus far?
-
Thats him ! Was that in Phillimores ?
I've also found a father for John Sturney who married Sarah/Sally Sargent ... William Sterney, b. c.1760 .... BUT ... there was a power cut while I was out for a walk and I've lost where I found him ... :( :( :( :( I didnt make a note of it but I think his wife was yet another Ann ??
I wasn't on battery and my laptop went flop ... :(

well done, woo hoo, getting somewhere at last
that would mean that Ambrose b. 1815 (s/o Charles & maria(h)) was Samuels cousin.

Hang on ... (four replies while I was typing this, so bear with me ...)
I'm loosing the thread again ... who are Charles and Maria ? And do we have TWO Ambrose's ?? (Father and son perhaps ?)
Ambrose b. 1815 (s/o Charles & maria(h)) was Samuels cousin.
So who were his parents, or wife of Ambrose (b1815) ?
Bramble ... we need this bit from Mary Ann Trowbridge (b.1846) backwards drawn out again ...
I've got the following from the 1861 census:-
Sower Street, Witchampton, Dorset
Eliz Foyle head widow 80 born Tollard Royal, Wilts
Ambrose Trowbridge son unm. 55 ag. lab born Tollard Royal
Rose Ellen Trowbridge visitor age 12 Wimbourne, Dorset
Rosellen must be the Rosellen we had trouble with at the start, so which Ambrose is this ... and who is Eliz. Foyle ??

Ambrose b. 1815 was s/o of Charles & Mariah nee Hayter
Charles was brother to Ambrose b. 1775
-
So far as I recall, this Ambrose b. c1815/16 turned out to be son of Charles & Maria, as he is in Census at some point with Maria - can't recall which year or ref., anyone else got it to hand...?
There are at least three Ambroses:
one b. 1775, prob. father to Samuel
one b. c1805/6-11, prob. bro. to Samuel
one b. 1815/16, son of Charles (who is bro. to Ambrose 1775) & Maria
so the two 1805/6 -11 and 1815/16 seem to be first cousins

Then there's a William Trowbridge b. ? m. Sarah Bennett 1774 ... can we take him back further ?
And there's also this Joseph Foyle who m. Eliz. Vincent ... presumably after 1821 when hubby #1, Anbrose Trowbridge (one of the three we have !) died ...
That'll give you something to concentrate on !!
I've got to prepare for tomorrow, it being Sunday ... sorry. I'm in a real muddle with the end of this week ... was absolutely CERTAIN that yesterday was Saturday, so I've had two Saturdays this week ! Def. old age setting in ::) ::) ::) ::)

Thats also a new one ...
just how many Trowbridges are there ??
And have you found any way to link them in with the ones in Wilts, just across the border, in Donhead St Mary ?
-
there may be some record of Ambrose trowbridge receiving parish relief in 1881
Would that be the Ambrose m. Susanna Sims
or
the Ambrose m. Jane Williams ?
-
Hi Lydart,
no i have not yet linked the to the Donhead ones i have just been searching Dorset OPc for William Trowbridge hoping to find William b. circa 1774 bapt. but i have not, i posted the other info as they were Trowbridges in the parishes we have visited before in our search.
Its always the way the parish you want is not transcribed :-\

Ambrose that m. Susanna Sims, he was in (Christchurch) Portsmouth in 1881 claiming parish relief where he gives his p.o.b as Portsmouth - i am presuming here that was to be able to claim the Parish Relief otherwise they would have kickedhim out on his ear back to dorset.

these guys may be able to help you with the Hampshire stuff.

i am turning off now but something to think about tonight...
there was a William Trowbridge b. 1745 Caundle Bishop and 1745 Belchawill do you think they could poss. be your William b. circa 1744
i geuss the only way of confirming would be to check (or get someone to via OPC maybe) Tollard Royal PR,
-
Is that a william of Caundle Bishop, and another William from Belchalwell i.e. two MORE Williams ? :o :o
Belchalwell is nearer the 'centre' of all these rellies !
-
well i have just looked at the Belchawell Baptisms 1733 - 1838 . on the OPC site and there is no William Trowbridge circa 1744
in fact no William Trowbridges in Belchawell at all, :-\
John Trowbridge 03.12.1758 s/o Richard of Shillingstone & Jane (perhaps Shillingstone is the key)

John 25.11.1764 s/o do.
Sarah 10.11.1765 d/o Richard & Jane

helloooooo yoohooo anyone here ?
Okay who are we finding ... oops ...sorry will refer to Lydarts last posts where she states what she needs ...
There's an odd George Sturney, b. c1840 floating around ... who is he ??

That'll give you something to concentrate on !!
Is the george Sturney the Grandson of Sarah ...? The one who is living with the Trowbridges ...?
I think we should follow him and see who his mother is ...maybe she will be with him in a census ...he's hoping. he has to be illegit as the Sturneys only had girls
will look
deb :)

Hello Toni and Deb (and Bramble who has offered to go to Dorset RO to check up on some things) ...
Tomorrow I have, in theory, a completely free day (apart from nipping out for some shopping) ... so I OUGHT to be able to read through all this, study Brambles trees, and ask any more necessary questions.
If I suddenly DON'T get tomorrow free, I'm already booked up for Tuesday, so it will be Wednesday ... :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
-
I can't find George Sturney in 1861 ...although, in 1871, I have found a George Sturney with wife Emma , 41 and children ... Mary 5 and Alice M ...both born London. George is 33 (1838) , Blanford. they are living next to Thomas FOYLE and family .
ummmm :-\
deb
PS ... Lydart I hope you do have a free day .... deb :)
-
Lydart .... eeekkkk ...we are on page 20 .... you will soon have to make 'part the third", deb :o 8)
-
I am not doing well on searching today ... everything I find keeps on NOT working out .... maybe I am losing my touch :-\
I have found this , which may be of interest ..as It involves the STURNEYs and FOYLEs ..before we had Ambrose Trowbridge with his mum Elizabeth Foyle and maye his Stepbrothers
In 1861 East St , Blandford
Thomas FOYLE 44 with wife Ann 41 and children William 22, Mary 19, Sarah 12 and Thomas 7 ...also with them is a niece ... Agnes STURMEY 8 born Blandford , St Mary ....
coincidence ??
deb :-\
-
Ahh-ha !
This is a place I've been before, tentatively, so to speak.
This is where we get into Foyle, Fripps and Triggle's !!
I've got them on a piece of paper somewhere ...
-
"Joseph Foyle m Anne Triggle ... Witchampton"
D**n I didnt note how I thought they were connected to the Trowbridges ...
-
Joseph Foyle was the first wife of Elizabeth Vincent, who was also m. to Ambrose Trowbridge in 1802
-
Think that should be husband ! (Dont think cross-dressing started until later !)
Joseph Foyle (or Foil) b 1775
His father = Abraham Foil b 1744
His father = John Foil (dob not known)
Oops ... someone popped in for a chat ... back soon ...
-
hhee hee Lydart ..i was a little confused there that "Joseph Foyle was the first wife of Elizabeth Vincent, who was also m. to Ambrose Trowbridge in 1802 " :o :o ::) ;D
Okay ... I still have not been able to trace Elizabeth Trowbridge (nee Vincent) = Joseph Foyle
We have to figure out who Agnes belongs to . I am also going to get the 1841 again and see who Ambrose Trowbridge's step brothers are/were.
will be back ....
deb
-
1841
Joseph FOYLE 65 blacksmith Y.... is he the one who married Ann Triggle?
Elizabeth " 55 Y
Isaac " 20 Y
Alfred " 15 Y
Ambrose TROWBRIDGE 30 ag lab Y
Sarah " 20 Y
If Ambrose Trowbridge snr died c 1821 , do you think both Foyle boys belong to Elizabeth (nee Vincent) or could they be Joseph's boy's from a previous marriage .... I know the ages are rounded up or down ...But would Elizabeth Foyle/ Trowbridge/Vincent be having sarah Trowbridge around the same time that Isaac and Alfred FOYLE were being born .... eekk ...confusing.
In 1861 we have a 44 year old Thomas FOYLE (b 1817) with family and Agnes STURMEY, 8 niece .... Ambrose Trowbridge above in 1861 is looking after Rosellen Trowbridge, who is the daughter of his brother, Samuel and Ann Sturney...so is Thomas Foyle a brother of the 1841 Foyle brother's ...arrgghhh
deb
-
You're confused ?
What do you think I am ?!
I think I originally found the Foyles and Triggles on one of the Ancestry family tree submissions ? But of course, do you think I can re-find them now ? Can I heck !
(There were Fripp as well ...)
-
children of Joseph Foyle and Ann :
*Abraham Foyle 24 MAY 1815 Witchampton
*MARY FOYL 22 FEB 1807 Witchampton,
*MARY ANN FOYL 04 SEP 1803 Witchampton
* MATILDA FOYL 25 AUG 1811 Witchampton
*Abraham Foyle 21 OCT 1821 Witchampton
all IGI submitted
when I look for children by Joseph and Elizabeth ...nothing !
I also cannot find christenings for Alfred , Isaac or Thomas Foyle ...so what is going on ?
deb ...pulling hair out .... ::) ... now we have names like Triggles and Fripps ...hee hee .... OH MY GOODNESS ::) :o
added I'm off to find Agnes Sturmey/ney b c 1853
just seen your post ...off to google Friggle
-
Don't forget I read a wrong transcription of Ann Triggle as Ann FRIGGLE ... and that's a word you don't want to look up in a dictionary !
(Bet you will though !)
-
You could Google it... ;) :o
meles
-
Best not, I think !
I just PM'd you Meles !
-
arrghhhhhh cr*p ...
Agnes Sturney b 1853 , Blandford ...is working for a gentleman born Abingdon , cambs ...his name is William NORRIS ...is he one of Lesanne ..Norris family ...lol
Meles ... Yep ... not going to dictionary it ...google is easier ...LOL ...nice to see you ;D
deb
-
Whoooops !
We are onto p. 21 ... should I start part the third, or should we just stop ? Where's Barbara when you need her ?
(Sleeping probably, as it is tomorrow there...)
-
Lydart ...start part tois .... err I mean three
deb ;D
-
