Post by: foxylady5856 on Friday 07 March 08 14:04 GMT (UK)
I am looking for Mary Terrins, she was my gr grandmother, she was born 1859, Warrington, the only address I have is 71 Mersey Street, Warrington, her father was John Terrins, my gr grandmother married Michael Carey.  Hope someone can help.

I've looked on FreeBMD, and Mary's marriage record is the only entry for TERRINS in the whole index.... ???

I suspect, therefore, we need to look for her under a similar-sounding surname such as TERRENCE, TORRANCE, etc.

What was her father John's occupation according to the marriage cert?

Hi Rambler on my gr grandparents marriage certificate it says that John Terrins was a labourer, that is all I know, my gr grandparents were married Dec. 24th 1876, John Terrins was deceased.  That is all I know.

There are a few possibilities, but none in Warrington, and mostly with middle names.

Of course, if Mary moved to Warrington as a small child, she may not have known she was born elsewhere!

Stockport to Warrington is about 22 miles - not so far.

You could be right I thought with an unusual surname I might have found it ok.  I have looked all over cannot find it anywhere, it so frustrating.

I agree that Stockport is reasonably close to Warrington, but as far as I can see, Mary Terrins/Carey is never listed with a middle name, including on her marriage record - ?

Marion - do her children's birth certificates give (a) a middle name or (b) a different spelling of her maiden name?

The other thing is the birth may not have been registered.

Can't find any likely family on either 1861 or 1871 census either.

Another thought:

Who are the witnesses on the wedding cert?  Do you know if Mary had any siblings?
