Title: 1861/1871 Census for John & Margaret.
Post by: hinton on Saturday 08 March 08 05:50 GMT (UK)
Have spent ages looking for the marriage of Margaret,  I have found her marriage in 1857 to John Bulman.
John is listed as a farmer aged 28 and Margaret Ann is 23.
Margaret sometimes listed as Mary Ann because of the shortening of her name to Mgt this has been taken as Mary Ann was bn at Usworth West Auckland. Some of her siblings have used Washington West Auck on their info.
Having got the cert. thought it would be plain sailing.!!!!!!  No sign of them on the 1881 census.
Any sightings of them on the 1861 and 71 Census?
Hinton.

Hello Karenlee,
Sorry if my request seems a little confusing.
Margaret married John Bulman in 1857 when he was listed as being 28 and she was 23.
This would make them approx 32 and 27 in 1861 and 10yrs older than that in 1871.
He was a farmer in West Auckland.
Hope this makes it clearer.
Thanks,
Hinton.,

Hi Hinton

Margaret Todd married William Bulman at about the same time that your couple married. I thought initially this may be John masquerading as William - but no. I cannot find your folks - nor any children born Auckland that seem unaccounted for in 1861. Is there any likelihood that they immigrated?

Thankyou, thankyou to all the rootschatters who helped to piece this puzzle together.
Sadly it doesn't look as though theres a happy ending.
Found their family, all daughters living on a farm with their 19yr old cousin as head of the house in
1881. I mentioned I couldn't find the parents, looked at free bmd, and have found 3 deaths it looks as though Margaret died in 1876 giving birth to a son who didn't survive and John B died 2yrs later in 1878 at 49.
Thanks again,
Hinton.
