Title: how long away

was there any given length of time in the 2nd world war when a man would be able to come home for leave, have a birth 1944 only child, and for love nor money can i find her parents wedding,
or did he just go and get sent there till nearing end of the war, help
any suggestions please ?

Hi Jo

There was certainly no rules about coming home. In fact I think most men were away for the duration. However, a large number of men were transferred from the Italian front back to England to prepare for D-Day in June 1944.

Could the bride have travelled to wherever the groom was stationed in order to get married?

Thanks for those two replies,
ive looked as far back as the beginning of 1939 for the marriage and zilch, he must of been home sometime cos baby was born Jan 1944  ??? unless  ::)

they were never married and baby was given the surname of her father , another one of those problems to make us bang our head agaist the computer screen ! lol
