Title: Hollingworth's of Lenton
Post by: S.J Detective on Friday 04 April 08 21:56 BST (UK)
Hello

I have been able to research back to Edward Hollingworth, born abt 1770 Lenton who married Mary Henson also born abt 1770 Lenton.  They married at Lenton on 4th September 1794.

I am seeking any Hollingworth researchers, and anyone who might know the Lenton records, who could be able to suggest parents of the above mentioned individuals.

Hoping someone can help me out.

Many thanks

Hi

I can't see any baptisms for either names at Lenton.  I noticed in the Phillimore marriage index that they married by licence. You could try to get a copy of the licence which will give you more information.

hi S.J. detective
if you are basing your research on the record on family search (IGI)
then it is only a submitted entry and should not be taken at face value

Hi SJDetective,
Here are all the baptisms at Lenton, taken from the Notts Baptism CD.
Hope these help.
I am researching a William Hollingworth, born 1840, who married Emma Chambers in 1861. They lived at Lenton, but I believe my William was born at Derby, not Notts.
Kind regards,
 Paulene :)

To enforce what Carol said, you would be well advised to get hold of the documents associated with the marriage licence. With luck this will provide a good deal of valuable data.

Nottinghamshire marriage licences* can be obtained from Manuscripts & Special Collections, University of Nottingham

http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/mss/

*Licences themselves have not generally survived. It's the allegation and bond that should still exist and that contains the useful information.

Thankyou Carol and Pharmakon for you information.  I will have to see what I can find at Nott's Uni archive.

Hi SJD,
I've looked on the Nottingham University manuscripts site for you and the couple you are looking for are not listed in their archdeaconary records (marriage bonds)I know the Nottingham Records Office has a book/books of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire marriages licences. It might be worth you ringing them, or emailing.
They also have person and place indexes, and would tell you if there is anything in the index. (*Wills index also). All useful things.
Good luck.
Paulene :)

Hi again Paulene,

Thanks for your time and update about the Notts Uni archives.  Pity about that  :(

I'll have to add this to my list of look ups next time I visit Nott's RO.  I've been a couple of times and I am getting a feel for the place and what's available.  It's a day trip for me so I need to have plenty to look for, to make it worthwhile.

On a slightly different but related topic, can anyone please tell me when Lenton churchyard closed to burials and where burials would have taken place after this time?  The years of interest would be Lenton/Nottingham 1808 to approx 1890.

Hi,
Just a further point re the marriage licences at Notts University Archives:
they tell me that they are not all indexed/online, but they were very helpful when I contacted them for unlisted ones, and will search (with date given).  Might be worth asking, maybe?
Good luck.

Hello.
I am looking for any information on Sleight and Hollingsworth family.
George Sleight who was a road worker for the council born around 1877 and married  Lilly Hollingsworth in 1915 at Basford. Lily as born Caistor Lincolnshire around 1895 and died of TB. We think they had about 15 children.
Dorothy the youngest, born 1934 from Grimsby and now living in Scunthorpe (My Mum).
Doreen  1933     Caistor,
Ernest      1930     Caistor,
Joyce     1928   Caistor
Joseph William 1926 Caistor who married Ivy,
Annie     1925    Caistor
Harry     1923    Caistor who married a Kathleen May Madden.
George     1920  Sleaford,
May       1919  Caistor,
These names we are not sure of being siblings of Dorothy sleight. Mary, Katherine, Barbara, Tom, Timothy, John.

Can you help

Stringbean.  :)

Hi Stringbean,

Just in case you're wondering which mine are - look for William Hollingworth born 1843 Derbyshire, spouse Emma, living in Nottingham, on the 1901 census.

Hi Stringbean,
Do you know the Nottingham area?
I grew up about 6 - 8 miles away, and lived there until 11 years ago.
Which area did your mum die - if it was the Nottingham area I might be able to suggest where to start looking.

Hi Willow 145

My mum is still alive and well.
I am waiting on new information comming in from mums cusion that i have found Tony Sleight from chesterfield. His father Harry Sleight had the job of sorting lilys will out. As Tony is hard at work and don't have much time to get any info to me . When I get more info,  I shall let you have an up date.

Do you have a Lily Born around 1895 on your list?.
