Hi All,
I was sent this photo which was scanned alongside a 60's black & white photo, the 60's one is perfect, but this one is stripey.
Can anyone give me a reason why this should happen and can it be fixed ?
Who ever this man is (has to be my mothers side of the family) he is the dead spit of my brother and thats rather spooky !
Is it possible the photo could have been taken around 1900 or a little earlier, if thats too early then there are definately skeletons in the cupboard.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Mardi.

Sorry, I keep getting an error message.
Hope it works this time.

here's my attempt
jenny
restorers - does anyone know an easy way to get rid of lines?
-
and another go.. for practice
-
Thank you Jenny, he's much less stripey now and more defined...wish I could do these magical things with photographs !
Thanks again,
Mardi.

My scanner has a choice you can click called 'descreen' ... no idea what it means, but that reduces stripes.
Then in your photo editing software (mine is Paint Shop Pro) there should be something called moire pattern removal ... try that also ...
Failing that, put the pictures up here on RC !
-
hope you don't midn Mardi, I'm still playing - strips are one thing I've still to find a good way to remove ;D
Jenny
:-\ I think doing it by hand gives a better finish, though CS2 has the edge at the minute.
-
Don't mind at all Jenny, practice makes perfect they say.
It's time to hit the pillow over here, so have fun destriping ;D
Mardi.
He's looking better all the time.

Hi Mardi/Jenny
I have used an FFT filter to get this result
Have done nothing else

one from me

Why do I think he looks like a Russian ? Chekhov, maybe ??
-
Thank you all for your great work, he really looks so much better.
He does look a bit Russian doesn't he, but I don't think that my dear old Aunt would have had any Russians in her shoe box of photos !
I know it's a hard photo to be able to date, but I was wondering if someone could have a rough guess from that twirled moustache and funny beard of his.
Thanks again, as always you all do such a great job.

As this is the restore board, can someone tell me what an FFT filter is ?
All knowledge is good !!
-
Hi Lydart
FFT (Fast Fournier Transform) is a filter that removes the texture form a photo

Thanks ... I'll look to see if I have it !
