Title: Champness - Cook County, Illinois
Post by: Scott1940 on Sunday 20 April 08 11:01 BST (UK)
Could you possibly look up the marriage of Eleanor Champness and Henry Hahn in Cook County Chicago, Illinois  sometime before 1949.

Thank you

Yvonne Harris

Illinois State Marriage Index available online 1763-1900:
www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/marriage.html

Here's the state website:
www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords/marriageinfo.htm

Ancestry has 3 sets of Illinois marriage databases listed but nothing after 1900.

Suspect you might need a more exact date to order any records.

Do you have ages/dates of birth for them?  Or any idea when they were last single?  Maybe we could help narrow the time frame down with more information.

This county website addresses genealogy requests:  http://www.cookctyclerk.com/sub/genealogy_requests.asp?VR=2

There's someone asking about the same family here:  http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/COOK-CO-IL/2005-06/1118793807 and http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/COOK-CO-IL/2005-03/1110941948

Thank you for your reply.

The other person enquiring about the family is a cousin living in New Zealand.

The names I have are as follows

William b 1912 m Joyce Karawasw
Robert b 1914 m Ann Hornek
Eleanor b 1917 m Henry Hahn
Audrey b 1919 m Arthur Beyerfuss
Lillian m Kenneth Molitor

But do not now when the got married so difficult to make any equires to the County Offices.

Since Eleanor is age 13 and single in the 1930 Census, at least we know she isn't married then.

In the Illinois Death Index (http://www.ilsos.gov/GenealogyMWeb/idphdeathsrch.html), there is a William A. Champness who died 11 Feb 1944 in Cook County.  If this is Eleanor's father or brother, maybe there is an obituary for him that will have Eleanor listed under either her married or maiden name.

William Champness was Eleanor's father.

Thank you for the web site for the deaths, as I found William's mother-in-law died in Cook County in 1921.

You might want to take a look at www.raogk.com.  There are people in Cook County who do obituary look-ups.  There is also someone who does look-ups in the 1947 Chicago telephone book, so that might help you narrow down the date more.  Additionally, if you have a Family History Center near you, there's this from 1937:  http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermainframeset.asp?display=titledetails&titleno=360204&disp=Lurie+index+of+people+in+Chicago+in+1937%20%20&columns=*,0,0

Also, if you know when/where Eleanor or Henry died, it might be worth pursuing their obituaries if you don't have them.  I had a marriage date listed in an obituary once.
