Hi all,
This is my first dabble into my Irish side of the family so here goes:
I'm looking for any information on my Grandparents families:
George Alfred LANG b 11 May 1911. Believed his parents are James LANG bc 1890 & Frances VANCE bc 1890 all of Castlepoles. (Posted on Cavan board.)
Susan Grace VANCE b 8 Dec 1916 Columbkille, Longford. Believed her parents are John James VANCE & Grace (NFD's) both of Columbkille.
Any help much appreciated.

Recent information such as you are looking for is probably not available online.
1901 and 1911 census records may help as well as church records.

Dear Dick,
I would suggest you try the Irish Family History database at http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/map.php but for two things: one, I've had a quick look for your Vances without success and two, it's exorbitantly expensive (especially if, like me, you want to record all Vances).
Still, seriously, I may have missed them so you should have a look. If you find any further info, please let me know; as I say, I'm trying to record all the Vances in the hope of discovering how we are all related.
Good luck with you research,
Jamie.

Thanks for the replies.
Found a few possibles on the IFHF site but as you say rather expensive.

Hi, I don't how you are getting on chasing your Irish roots but I am also looking for Langs in
Castlepoles and although I don't think your James appears on my tree I do have a copy of
his marriage cert to Frances Vance. His father was also James Lang Farmer of Castlepoles
and Frances' father was John Vance. They were 30 & 29 respectively.

Hi Shirley,
A strong possibility. I have also sent you a personal message.
Best regards

Brilliant, Shirley, well done!
You don't have any more Vances, do you? I'd love to have anything you've got.
Yours,
Jamie.

Hi Shirley,
I have details of a Herbert bc 1906 and Desmond bc 1915. Do either of these fit into your tree. I also have a newspaper cutting from the Arva News relating to a Stanley Lang, Drumkeelwick sent by a cousin of my Grandmother Susan Lang nee Vance.
Regards
Dick

Can anyone decipher the residence of Frances vance in the above certificate for me please?

And Frances is in the 1901 census, see http://cavan.brsgenealogy.com if anyone fancies paying for it! And if so, please let me have the details!

Hi Dick and others,
I've recently had an email kindly sent me by someone who spotted my interest in this subject. He wrote:
"I found your message re the Lang/Vance family Castlepoles Arva, Co Cavan, My primary school teacher was Mrs. Francis Lang Brusehall National School C of I I attended this school 1929-39.I was an adopted child of a neighboring family. I got to know the Lang family very well. Mrs. Lang had 3 sons Herbie, Alfie, and Desmond, all have passed on now. Herbie's widow stills lives at Castlepoles"
Hope this'll help someone.
Jamie.

Hi, how interesting! My father's cousins went to Bruce Hall School, joining in about
1926. They were Cecil David Stokes Lang & Ena Christina Lang. I wonder if your
contact knew them. Shirley
-
Hi Jamie & Shirley,
Jamie - Can you pm me with your contacts details - the school teacher is my Great Grandmother Frances Lang nee Vance. 'Alfie' is my Grandfather George Alfred Lang. Herb's widow is Ena who is still in contact with an Aunt of mine.
Shirley - I would guess that our families cross somewhere along the line!
Dick
PS - I'm told I have relatives living in Edmonton/Tottenham North London quite close to me!

Hi, Dick, As if Irish Genealogy isn't difficult enough, I'm trying to work out
who all my new contacts are! I do have a copy of the Bruse Hall School
Register which shows George Alfred Lang. It's not too clear but quite
interesting - Shirley

Shirley - What an absolute gem!

Hi, Dick, has Jamie put you in touch with Jack yet? He's an incredible gentleman
and Frances Lang was his school teacher! He left Bruse Hall in 1939. I'm so
excited hearing from him and I don't even know if Frances belongs to my Langs.
