Title: William Buswell after 1851
Post by: behindthefrogs on Monday 09 June 08 12:23 BST (UK)
William Buswell was baptised 14 Oct 1818 Market Harborough Wesleyan Church.   In 1851 he is a Journeyman Blacksmith living at Wales Street Rothwell with his wife Lucy Adnitt who he married Q4 1849 Market Harborough D, and lodger Joseph Turner (born 1797 Rothwell)

Lucy was born Warkton Northants in c1824, died Q3 1859 Kettering D.

My problem is what happened to William after 1859.  I don't know if he had any children or remarried.

Hi David

There is a death registration for a William Buswell, Kettering district Q3 1860.

No way to tell from this if it is your man or not  ::)

There is also a death in Dec Q 1854 Market Harborough. Do you know if he was still alive when his wife died in 1859.

Thank you for your replies.  I know no more about him than in my original post.

His father Richard Buswell also a blacksmith was born in Market Harborough but by 1820 was living in Desborough where he continued his trade until his death in 1857.  William was living with his father in 1841.

Thanks Sandy and Geoff.

I am beginning to think that the 1860 death is probably the answer although the family does seem to return to Market Harborough for some of its marriages etc.  If he survived his wife I can also understand him going back to Desborough to help his father or even take over his business after 1857.

If you get the death certificate for his wife you will find out if he was still alive in 1859. She should be described as the 'wife of' or 'the widow of' William Buswell.

It would depend on who was present at her death and noted as the informant.

As we know this can be anyone from a relative to the next door neighbour.

Hi David

I looked up Lucy's burial record for you today.

Rothwell Parish Church
Pg 58 No 463  Jul 18th 1859
Lucy Buswell Rothwell aged 37

No mention of being a widow.

There is no death at either Rothwell or Desborough Parish Churches for 1860
for William.

No re-marriage either that I could see.

As my friend and I were in Kettering today we popped over to Rothwell and I
searched the Churchyard gravestones for Lucy to no avail.

I only had 15 minutes spare and checked about 500 graves (getting good at scanning
now  :) ) although she could have been with her own family stone?

Will keep in mind to look more throughly another day.

Sandy

You are welcome David.

Most of Rothwell stones are slate which makes them easy to scan.  :)

I did take a couple of Buswell Stones which may come into your lineage
if you would like them I could either e-mail them to you or put on the
Northampton board as we can't post photo's here.

Here is some of the inscriptions David.

Mary Buswell wife of Charles March 1st 1812 aged 70 years.
Elizabeth Buswell daughter of Charles and Mary May 9th 1819 aged 49 years

John Buswell August 11th 1823 aged 49 years
Thomas Buswell October 1st 1829 aged 54 years (same stone).

I know you said yours were originally from M. Harbo' and then went to
Desborough so they may not be related at all.

Worth getting whilst at the church though.

Although my Buswells were in Market Harborough around from 1790 onwards I haven't found any trace of them there before that.  The name patterns on the gravestones fit so well that there is a very good chance that they fit into the previous generation.

My earliest is Thomas Buswell who married Jane Lewis at St James Westminster in 1786.  He was a staymaker in Market Harborough where his ten children were born and all baptised at MH Independent.  While I can trace Jane back another generation I can't find Thomas.
