Title: 1861/71 bristol long ashton
Post by: cynda on Sunday 23 January 05 14:46 GMT (UK)
I am looking for a Walter Dalling and wife Agnes and family in the Long Ashton area of Bristol in the 1861 Census.  Their daughter Thirza was born in Long Ashton 1853 so I am hoping they are on this census.

Also hoping to find them on the1871 census.

Many thanks

WALTER DALLING Head Marr 60 Gardiner, Agr b Barnstaple, Devon

No sign of his wife AGNES but I'm pretty sure the entry for Walter says Married and not Widower

Thanks for the information.  It certainly looks like the family I am interested in.  Will look further into the "Agnes" situation!

Hi
I had a look and there is a death for an AGNES DALLING in March Quarter 1857 in Barnstaple District.
Have you any idea if she died young?
Anne

Thanks again.  Not sure about her death but will keep digging.  Beginning to get a better picture of the family.

Hello
The Agnes Dalling death 1857 that you chase was born Agnes Gould in 1776 and married George Dalling (B1776 - D1848) in 1798 in Barnstaple. I regret right family, wrong branch.

This is the grandson from 1871 - to clarify who was the mother

Frederick Walter James Dalling
Baptism    30 Jan 1872,    St. Luke Barton Hill, Bristol
Mother    Thirza Dalling
Address: Little Phoenix St
Note: private baptism, probably because of what happens within the week

Frederick Walter James Dalling
Age    13 months
Death    5 Feb 1872
Burial    11 Feb 1872, Wycliffe Church, Totterdown  (nonconformist plot)

This mother is listed as Thursa Dalling is therefor unmarried and Frederick Walter James Dalling was a bastard. Thursa is born to George (B1803) and Mary (B1796/1800) Dalling about 1846.
Thursa is the grand-daughter of George Dalling and Agnes Gould

Surely Thirza is Walter's daughter and James FW (aka Frederick WJ) his grandson, as shown on 1871

This side of the Dalling family is only distantly related to my family, so is on the fringe of my tree.
So I am not sure who Walter Dalling is or where he fits.
I suspect Thursa and Luana are sisters and by 1871 their parents are deceased, hence living with Walter,
Saying they are his daughters and he is widowed to the census saves a lot of questions from the authorities.
Also, in 1871 Thursa is about 26 years, not 19 as given.

If you follow this link you'll see Walter, Agnes, Thirza (aged  9) and  Susan (who is badly transcribed as Luana on 1871) all together

Sorry, I do not have familysearch.
Who are Walter and Agnes, she cannot be the grandmother Agnes who died in 1857.
Ancestry gives Thusa parents as George and Mary Dalling, deceased by the 1850's?
They are probably relatives, but what relationship?
In your previous posting they went from Barnstaple to Bristol in 6 days, trains cost in 1871.

I have only just realised you've resurrected a thread from 2005 related to Walter and Agnes Dalling and their daughter Thirza, b c1853 in the Barnstaple area

She is a different person from the Thurza who is possbily the daughter of George and Mary, b c1847 in the St Thomas area

They can both be found on the 1871 census

Also I've no idea what you mean by going from Barnstaple to Bristol in 6 days? If you mean the gap between the infant Dalling's baptism and death in 1872, that all happened in Bristol

Then your tree of the Dalling family tree is outside the parameter where I have drawn the limit.
It was the unusual name of Thirsa (Thursa) that threw us.
They are probably all related, all being likely related somewhere through George and Agnes Dalling
