Thanks again Gadget. The name Gorrie is new to me, I wonder who their parents are,? Maybe from children from Rowlands first marriage, will have to do a bit more digging. Now just need the 1871 census now.
Thanks Sheila

-
Hi Sheila
I've not checked the 1851 but, judging by the birthplaces of the children, they might well have been in Canada :-\

Thanks again gadget.

Hi Sheila
It might be worth you putting a request about the Gorrie family on the Emigrants to Canada board:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,166.0.html
There are some good searchers there who might be able to find something on the family :)
regards

From Llanfyllin BTs:
Baptism 10 Feb 1828 Maria d/o Rowland Evans (joiner) and Margaret
This fits with the 1841

Thanks for the lates info.
Sheila

Would you like me to check on Rowland's parentage?
-
There are two. The most likely from census age is:
Bpt 10 Aug 1783 (b. 10 Aug) s/o Rowland Evans and Gwen
the other:
2 Feb 1782 (b. 30 Jan) s/o Griffith Evans (glover) and Elinor
-
Interesting:
Castell Caereinion BTs
Marriage 22 May 1802 Rowland Evans, bach., carpenter, parish of Berriew and Elizabeth Webb, spinster, of Berriew

yes please, and Margarets if possible, she was a Edwards before marriage, I am curious about her, as her daughter (my grt grt grandmother)mary also married a Maurice Edwards.

Re Rowland Evans:
There are two. The most likely from census age is:
Bpt 10 Aug 1783 (b. 10 Aug) s/o Rowland Evans and Gwen
the other:
2 Feb 1782 (b. 30 Jan) s/o Griffith Evans (glover) and Elinor
Most likely Margaret Edwards:
Llanfyllin bpts:
bpt 15 May 1787, b. 14th May d/o Thomas Edwards and Martha. Abode - Bachia
As they had a son, Thomas, this is a strong poss.

I have just started my research on this family again, could I ask for a look-up of them on the 1871 census, i am particularly interested in the three grandchildren Margaret Catherine and James all born canada, i have just recently found out that their parents both died March qtr 1860 at Portsea so now understand why they where with their grandparents in the 1861 census, also grandparents Rowland and Mary both died before 1871.
Any help to find them would be appreciated.

Hi Sheila
First of all, James appears to be a soldier at Woolwich:
Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich, Kent
RG10/780 F 53 P 13
James Gorrie, 15, Trumpeter - Royal Artillery, b. Canada
Gadget :)
-
Thanks Gadget, that looks to be the right James, his fathert was in the Royal Artillery thats why the children where born Quebec Canada.
Sheila
-
This might be Catherine:
Town Gate, Leyland, Lancs
RG10/4194 F 72 P 7
Frederick Hackforth, 40, chemist, b. Doncaster
Lydia, 56, chemist's wife, b. Rotherham
Kate Gorrie, servant, 18, domestic servant, b. Quebec, Canada

Thanks once again

Not yet found Margaret :(
However, I have found a possible marriage:
Margaret Gorrie, Sept q, 1873, Oswestry, vol 6a, p 1213
Henry Edmunds, Thomas Williams and John Morgan are on the same page.
I'll do some more checking for her
Gadget

Found Margaret on the 1881 census married to Henry Edmunds(Edmonds)
RG11/3037/100 page 7
Sheila
-
So she is most likely in the broad Llanfyllin-Oswestry area in 1871, I would think.
I've tried for Maggie and Margaret, b. Canada in Eng and Wales but not having much luck :-\
Gadget
-
Thanks for trying. Any idea where I might look for James in the 1881 census?
-
If he's not obviously on the 1881, he might well be abroad with his regiment.
It might be worth asking on the Armed Forces Board for the whereabouts of the RA in 1881.
I'll have a quick look on the Nat Archives site to see if he has a record.
Gadget
-
Had a look on the NA but no records for a Gorrie at all :-\
Also can't see him on the 1891. There are a couple of deaths in West Derby RD (Liverpool) in 1897 and 1918 with approx DoB but not sure enough to say that one of them is him.
-
Tghanks for all your help, will have a look at the deaths you mention. Any signs of Catherine?
Sheila
-
Haven't checked Catherine on the 1881- you might look for her on Familysearch but she might have married. Free BMD might have a marriage.
