Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the name Trevivian might be a variant of please? Or how else I can take this line back further.
Richard Trevivian married Mary Stodden 6 Jul 1745 in Kenwyn. But I can find no Trevivian's before this date. All the ones I have found are descendants of Richard & Mary.
I have just received a copy of Richard's will, finding it hard to read, but he didn't mention any names apart from his wife and children as far as I can make out.
Any help/suggestions much appreciated, thanks.

Variants..always a dilemma
Searching at OPC database, its interesting to see the ealy lines of VIVIAN and could we wonder if the TRE was added?? (1606 at KEnwyn)
Looking at Jim's surname page
TREVIVIAN Itre-hiuin, yew farm, or poss: tre-Vyvyan, Vyvian's homestead ?

Thanks for your comments Althea.
Followed your link to the surnames pages and this is the first time I've seen any other mention of the Trevivian name, so thanks for that. I was beginning to think I was not looking hard enough. :-[ I've not found anyone else researching this line either.
Yes this is a dilemma, not even sure how I can go about proving (or not) if it is a variation of the name Vivian or any other name, for that matter.
I will delve a little further with the Vivian name and see if something turns up.
Thanks again, Sue

Another place to look for names and possibilities is the CFHS name index
http://www.cornwallfhs.com/downloads/sli-tre.pdf go to page 15 of 16
and it tells you how often the names appear in transcribed indexes
TREVIVIAN 76 entries
TREVIVION 4 entries
TREVIVIVIAN 4 entries
There are several people researching your line at WORLD CONNECT

Thanks again for your help Althea.
I've had a look at the world connect trees but unfortunately they are not any further back than me. I will send the owners of the tree's a message anyway, in the hope they have more information off-line.
Also had a look at the pdf doc you put the link up for. Interesting variation names there. It might be an idea to join the Cornwall FHS, from looking at their website it may well be helpful.
Your comments are much appreciated.

I have sent you a PM giving details of a possible Trevivian connection in Australia.
Whilst I have not researched this family connection,I have given you some data which might be of help.

Please refer to a reply by Cando on the Immigrants to Australia Board. This may enable you to access the passenger list fo "Royal Albert".

Thanks Rex, off to have a look.
Update: That looks interesting. I will investigate further.
On another passenger list site I did find a Mary Ann Gatley nee Trevivian listed with her husband and children arriving 1840.
Thanks again,

I have found a John Trevivian aged 38 and a miner, enlisting 20 Dec 1915 Australian Military from Kathleen Valley Western Australia. His sister K.Trevivian of Kadina South Australia given as his next of kin.
I also found burials of 4 Trevivians in Kadina Cemetery South Australia including Richard buried 17 Apr 1917 aged 82.
I believe he is the Richard Trevivian who arrived Port Adelaide 1857 on Royal Albert.
Rex

Thanks for the information Rex.
I've not been able to find Richard on the Royal Albert passenger list for 1856/1857, so I e-mailed the State Library of South Australia. Their reply was that there was a John Trevivian & wife on board the Royal Albert, arriving 29 Mar 1857, but no Richard.
They also supplied me with some death dates of various Richard Trevivian's all living Wallaroo mines. None of which appear to be the Richard born c1835 who was suposed to be on the Royal Albert in 1857
So now I'm totally confused !!
Anyway, thanks again for your help.

There is a Richard Trevivian aged 82 buried 17 Apr 1917 at Kadina Cemetery South Australia.
I also noticed reference to "Reminiscences of Richard Trevivian are in the Observer (I assume South Australia) 7 Jan 1911 page 40c.Not sure how you could access this.

Maybe another e-mail to the library? Thanks I will look into that, might have some clues.
You've been great finding all this, I presume on the web? Are they sites I can access from the UK?

Hi Sue,
Would you expect the father of Richard to be James?
Richard TREVIVIAN Status unlisted 22 Father James = PERCE Mary Single 20 father John 14 Dec 1858 res of Thomas Waters Strathalbyn Dist Str 36 182
Looks like 8 Children Wallaroo Mines (Mum Pearce, Perce, Pierce)
As Rex mentioned he is buried in Kadina with his wife and I expect 2 of his children although I don't see a birth for Annie but we have early gaps in births to Richard and Mary so either they ventured interstate or births were not registered) The 4 are buried together and Annie's death lists her as single.

I Googled Kadina+Trevivian also Wallaroo Mines.
Richard Trevivian married Mary Ann Pearce (I saw Purse somewhere).
They lived at Wallaroo Mines, had four sons and 3 daughters all born Kadina S.A.
Mary Ann aged 67 was buried 10 Oct.1907.
One of the Census (1851 Kia has a William Chynewath 76 father in law, living with James Trevivian and his wife Mary Ann.I think this suggests this Mary Ann was nee Chynewath.
I think it was their son Richard, then 15 who came to Australia in 1857.
I hope I am not confusing matters.

Yes I think this is correct although I thought there were only 7 children. The spelling of his wife's name
suggests we are speaking of the same family.
One of the children John (b1877) joined the Australian Military in Kathleen Valley Western Australia 20 Dec 1915.He gave his sister K Trevivian of Kadina South Australia as his NOK.
John had a sister Catherine (known as Kate) b1870.
Another sibling b1866 is also buried Kadina aged 45.

I have noticed that there may be a connection to the Chynewath/Chynoweth/Chynoweth family.
The 1851 Census Kea has a William Chynewath, father in law living with the family of James and Mary Ann Trevivian.Suggests Mary Ann was nee Chynewath or similar.Son Richard was gone by 1861.

I will send you a PM as I have received quite a deal of information from my Trevivian connection today. There is reference to the people who came to Australia all those years ago even a couple of unidentified photos.
There is mention in one of the letters to a Reverend Roy or Ray Trevivian in Cornwall.A daughter of James Henry Trevivian thought that that there may be a connection to Richard Trevivian and her great grandfather.

Thanks Rex, I have sent you a pm with my e-mail.

Hi Sue,
I've not found anyone else researching this line either.
I helped a relatively newcomer last night who is searching for the same surname as you are, I have sent her your link, and this is hers

Hi Sue, my maiden name was Trevivian and i am a direct decendent of the families in South Australia. The earliest relative I can find is a William b 30 may 1768, in Kenwyn, and his father was a Richard. Maybe this ties in with Richard and Mary Troddart

Just to let anyone who's reading this thread know, that I've exchanged e-mails with Leah and are now sharing our information.
Although our Richard Trevivian (bn c1725) is still a huge brickwall at the moment. Not found him before his marriage to Mary Stodden in 1745, Kenwyn. :-[ i could do with camping out in Truro RO for a few weeks!
