Title: 1841 look up for Alfred please....
Post by: tazzie on Sunday 10 August 08 10:36 BST (UK)

   Hi all .......

I have a Alfred Emmerton who marries Mary Bodsworth in 1856.
They are both in Stanbridge in 1851
Mary with parents Benjamin & Abigale (nee Durrant).......
 & Alfred as a visiter....

Alfred Emorton age 22 journeyman capenter b Market Street Hrts.
Some one has him on Ancestry and IGI as born Slatley Beds in 1829.
Now Slatley ...could it be Slapton ....next door to Stanbridge...or could Market Street be Markyate...up the A5...

IGI entry gives his parents as William Emmerton & Elizabeth Floyd...they marry Chalgrave in 1827 which I can prove .

So after all that ..what I need is ..can anyone see Alfred in 1841 ...please?

  Hi Tati ......

Back from 2 weeks in Crete and cannot even show off my tan as it keeps raining here :'(...

Thanks for that.....think it rules out Slapton as thats really Bucks then.

Why are none of mine stright forward.....changes frm Emorton Emmerton Emmerson in places.

On Ancestry they have William b Chalgrave Elizabeth b Totternhoe.
When Alfred marries Mary they head off to Australia so are not on the 1861.

Will have a dig about to see where the other were baptised .

            Many thanks

Hi Tazzie
My Grt Grt Grt grandparents were William and Elizabeth Emmerton.  their son Joseph emmigrated in 1861 to Goulburn NSW Australia along with brothers Alfred, Samuel and John.  Joseph and his wife Eliza had 11 children Samuel 5 Alfred 10 but John was accidently killed in 1861 and had no children.
Have full history for all the Aussie section of the family along with some on the other brother George who stayed in England.

  Hi Cartman.....

Sorry for delay in my response but hope you have my pm I have sent.

Alfred married Mary Bodsworth. Our link to this couple is as follows
Caroline Bodsworth was the older sister to Mary who marries Alfred. She married John Blake and are hubbies 3x great grand parents.
The Bodsworth name varies between Botsworth/ Botsford & Bodsworth so at the time of this look up I was chasing the line through siblings. From this line we have Tearle.... a name native to Stanbridge and also Blake & Palmer families.

  Hello Dawn.

 Welcome to Rootschat.
Good to here from another member from the other side of the world.
Alfred & Mary are not on hubbies direct line but I wanted to follow what happened to his 3x great grandma's siblings. The spelling of both names has varied in paperwork. I still think it amazing they all uprooted and went to the other side of the world must have been a daunting prospect after rural Bedfordshire.
